This month's Mother Earth News has an article on tractor safety. You can read it HERE

The article says close to a person a day dies in a tractor accident each year. 130 per year die in roll over accidents. Each year 60 die in run over accidents. Many of these are the operator - they started the tractor from the ground to run an implement. Statistics come from NIOSH.

Sweden passed a law about ROPS way back in 1957. The US has no laws governing ROPS but manufacturers have been putting them on voluntarily since 1985.

ROPS are required in the U.S. We discussed them in this thread.

That is a good article. When I first bought my tractor... I spent a few days reading through the safety forum. Some of the stories will scare you! But it made me a lot more aware of what I was doing and reminded me to appreciate to dangers of heavy equipment.
