Suggest looking at the battery cables and all connections from the battery to the starter to ensure all is good. Then note if there is any kind of sound from the starter when you try and start it.

Next try a manual bar over. :)

just what it sounds like.

try to manual spin the engine over by hand. that usually entails a breaker bar and big socket on the crank nut.

what model of cdb is it?

did you check oil and coolant prior to start?

You might be hydrostaticly locked. If this is a diesel pull all injectors. Keep fuel shut off and turn over if possible. If gas pull sparkplugs and do same.

Good luck.

Put the tractor in reverse (engine off) and grab the rear tire and pull forward (rocking it back and forth). It will cause the engine to spin backward. I've seen this done before and sometimes it will free up a stuck engine or starter bendix that has jammed on the flywheel.

May not solve your problem but it's easy enough to try.

hello,
........ blew lot of black smoke and stalled engine,............
Lester

What do you mean when "and stalled the engine". ??

You stalled it doing some work or moving the tractor, or the engine stalled out on its own ?

If on its own, then I'd suspect fuel related problems.

If it stalled when you let out the clutch or when you put the engine under load, then could be locked up. Might be lubrication problem.

More info needed here.

If the tractor sits outside uncovered. It's possible you have water in the transmission and,or rear differental. The water froze enough the lock the driveline somewhere. Cover it with a tarp and shoot a torpedo heater at it. Warm it up. Rock it enough to unbind the engine. It might be fine. Just drain the transmission and rear differental fluids and replace with fresh. This happened to a diesel tractor at the farm. It had a bad trans shifter boot. Let water into transmission.

he should still be able to start it with the clutch pressed, unless it is an independednt pto model.

if it is in 2 gears it could bind.. but again, as above.
