Motor oil for Kubota?

I agree with you JD plus 50 is not a great oil but a very good oil. Interestingly, on the Turbodiesel site they did VOA on different diesel oils and JD rated in the good catagory with only very few non synthetics rated in the best category. It actually rated by analysis with Lucas 15w40 Magnum, Amsoil 10w40 and Catepillar DEO. As a matter of fact, it rated above all the CJ4 oils tested. This was of course was their testing and opinions based on the analysis of additives etc. By the way Rotella 5w40 synthetic was in the best category Ci 4 plus but the 15w40 CJ4 was actually rated below JD oil in this test. I agree a good oil and filter changed often is what is the most important. The only time anything else comes into play is testing and filter changes for extended drains which I don't do anyway.

The problem is #1, A VOA means nothing on how it will before. You can have a high TBN, example, and it deplates faster then TEX/MEX food after the bar scene! LOL

All the oils you posted after not that great. Heck, I would not buy Amsoil 10w-40 since it is not in there use me Diesel class. I do not put much faith in the diesel rating since I have never had an issue using CJ in brand new engine etc (based on UOA).

All I am saying is a good oil is WHAT you are looking for. Low wears, stable TBN, low TAN etc. I have come to the play in forum land that if you want real data on oils/etc you need to see a real oil biz and not on forums.

I agree completely about VOA being somewhat meaningless if the additives do not hold up in real world uses. By the way, it sounds like you may have tested some oils what have you found to do the best in UOA? As for me in all reality I change filters and oil every 35-40 Hrs anyway because that is about what I put on this tractor in a years time and so don't really expect an oil related problem but I am always interested in what oils do in tests. I honestly have never seen an oil related failure even in cases where people have not changed the oil in several years believe it or not. I used to be suspicious of extended drains until we went to Amsoil where I used to work and changed the oil filter every 10K and the oil every 20K and things are still going great according to the mechanics I visited with. I have not seen one of the engines torn down but they go in in 80K miles of hard use. I know in my work vehicle the oil looked real good to the 17K mark and only then began to look dirty to the eye. These were gas Vehicles using Amsoil filters and 5w 30 Oil. I have had a couple of folks tell me they do build up sludge during these extended drains but I have not actually torn one down so do not know.

I use Delo 400 in my Kubota L3400 from day one. Just make sure that you change it regularly. And yes the filters are a complete rip off from the Kubota dealerships but you are unable to purchase the hydraulic oil filters any where else. They charged me about $76 for the hydraulic filter so I didn't buy the oil or the oil filter nor the air filter from them. They were only able to rip me off on one filter and so missed out on all the other business. Good luck brother.

from the K dealer? are you sure on this? also, you can cross reference about any hydr filter if you're careful about micron specs & fit . just asking, seems excessively high good luck

Look through older posts this subject. I have posted all the fluids and filters for the BX 25, all cross reference to NAPA filters and HYD oil an I use Delo 400LE motor oil. Have used DELO for over 50 years in everything I own or have owned. Ask for the NAPA fleet prices, you will save a bunch. I believe that hyd filter is around $9.00 that way.
