Living in the snow belt of Ontario I have a blower on the back of my Kubota L245dt I also have a Bogballe spreader to spread sand. My problem is every time I want to spread sand I have to take foo the blower and then put the spreader on and then change back. what I would like to do is mount the spreader on the front but I do not have a PTO in the front. would a motor work? is there a 12v motor the I could control the speed available the could take to place of the PTO? Is there a hydraulic motor? I am just trying to get ideas right now so I am open to just about any suggestion, except a new tractor the wife has already said no!

there are inexpensive salt/sand spreaders available that work on 12VDC and mount to a trailer hitch receiver ...I use one with a receiver bolt-on on my FEL bucket lip ...works fine

How do you fill it?

How do you fill it?

1) Make a stand for it. Use bucket to fill it, drop bucket and then pick up spreader.

2) Fill a bunch of 5 gallon pails and dump in when needed

3) Store sand high enough up to just push in

4) Get a second tractor

If I were starting over, I would get something like Buyers Tailgate Spreader Fits Pickups, Model# TGS05B | Salt Spreaders | Northern Tool + Equipment and fit up pin-releasable attachment to a quick-attach plate, add a prop to allow it to stand upright ...then, use FEL bucket to fill and swap bucket for spreader ...but any of the other ideas from the previous poster have worked for me (except second tractor ...) incidentally, the reason for not just hard-welding to a quick-attach plate would be so that it was still pickup-tailgate mountable

...incidentally, there still are cheaper, smaller spreaders, like mine available that use hitch-receiver...again, able to switch between FEL bucket (as earlier described) and truck....I just wasn't able to quickly locate a link and, when I saw the larger one, my imagination ran on

You could use a hydraulic motor, but they are pricey unless you can find a used one and make the PTO stub shaft yourself-or machine a adapter to one.
