I have had my JD 990 and 430 FEL for about a month and have enjoyed it very much. I have found that sometimes when I am shifting gears from reverse to forward (or vice-versa), the gear shift encounters resistance and won't go into gear unless I move the loader control just a little. Does this indicate something bad, or is it just my tractor's personality? I have the same problem sometimes if my wheels are turned (not straight-on) and I try to change gears.

Congra's on your new machine ,
I also have a 990 , ,,, had her for about a year now (May 6th '02 ) . I cann't say that I have noticed the problem specificly that you are asking about . Having driven standard transmission trucks I do know at times they don't alway shift smooth ( in my case operator error /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif ) and take it as part of the nature of the beast . If you are having a real hard time shifting , them hopefully some one with more knowlegde of collar transmissions will have a better idea as to possible causes and a fix .
I find the machine to be a great lil ' tractor for what I am doing , hobby farm gowing veggies and cleaning 30+ years of growth from the stone walls around the place.

Welcome ..
