We need to move the pool table that came with the house we bought. (now I know why the old owners left it) I finished the basement and we are going to have it carpeted so I need to find a way to move it from one side to the other as they lay the carpet. The basement is a walkout with a sliding door. I think the the tc40 would fit if I can get the sliding doors out. The wife put a very fast stop to that. and I quote " no tractors in the house" any other thoughts on what type of dolly to use. the local rental place has a piano mover but I am not sure how they work so I will have to stop in and look at them

First, make sure it's not a multi piece slate bed.
If not, get some wood blocks and a hydraulic jack, and 4 gym dollys. Lift one end at a time, and set a dolly under each leg, then lower onto dolly. If the table has 6 legs, you will need 6 dollys. When table is firmly on dollys, push gently, it will move.
If table is multi piece slate bed, the same principal applys, you'll just need 2 jacks, a helper and a lot more patience.
If stairs are involved, put an ad in the paper, and sell the table to somebody who will move it.

Amen. When I was a young private, I got volunteered for a detail to move half a dozen pool tables from the second floor to the third floor of the Rec center. And you can bet there were no dolly's involved. Fortunately, I got orders and was a long way away by the time the Rec Center remodel was done and they moved the tables back.

I'm afraid I'd have to agree with your wife on that one. As much as I love the smell of diesel, having one run in the house even for a short while would put a very long lasting odor into every soft surface around. You may be paying your wife back big time after that /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Tell the carpet layers to do a really accurate job of cutting around the feet of the table! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Go visit or call places that sell and deliver pool tables. Ideally, try to find the people who sold this one new. No one knows better how to move one than people who do it for a living. I think you'll be surprised at how cheaply they'll come and do the job.

My best friend had a California King waterbed with a huge bookcase headboard and attached nightstands in his master bed room. A back surgery eliminated that from his life so he needed to move it to another room on the same floor. He looked at all that was involved in draining the bed, disassembling everything, moving it down the hall, reassembling it and refilling the bed and decided to see how many hundred dollars it would cost to have someone come and do it.

He called one place, they quoted him $75 for everything. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif Call around and see what you can find out. I'll bet you'll be pleasantly surprised. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif Good luck! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I had the same problem, but the carpet layers said they could not lay carpet with the table in the room. I thought about moving it out on dollies using lifts through a 6' wide window ( ground level with rec room), and a pulley and 'come-along' arrangement to lift it up to the ceiling. Wierd thoughts!

I finally contacted a pool table man, and he (for $160) came, dismantled the table, carried the three pieces of slate out to another room along with the rest of the table parts, returned after the carpeting and put it back together with new cloth and re-leveled the table. Well worth it to me.
