I have a kubota L4400, the FEL joy stick is mounted too far out front for smooth control, how much trouble would it be To relocate it closer to my right knee or hip ( like a regular back hoe ) where I could have an arm rest

Not sure if it is an option for you but here is a pic of my B3030 with a remote joystick like the cab model. It has worked great. Hope this helps.

The beauty of joystick controls is the fact that the push/pull cables are small and reasonably flexible.
So; in fact if the control reaches where U want it to be you'd simply need to fab some mounting brackets to hold the joystick body in place,
There are really very minor forces applied to the joystick body so bracketry need not be all that heavy duty either.
In fact you could even design a hinged sort of bracket for convienience.
Many mini excavators install the left joystick in a hinged armrest that flips up to allow operator access to the cab. (that would call for longer cables than you have presently)

The push pull joystick cables (known as a 'bowden cable') should be available in a multitude of lengths if you can determine the brand.

and how does this take the place of the current joy stick, hydraulics? solenoid etc?

spo307,

You could probably move it anywhere you wanted, but you would have to add extensions to all the hoses, and secure the valve.

how is this set up in place of the stock joy stick?

The cables that are connected to the joystick are connected to a valve that is under the tractor usually (not sure on the Kubota) so the valve is "remotly" operated.

He was letting you know that there may be a option for your machine like there was for his...

To move yours, you would need to fabricate a mount and purchase longer hoses like JJ wrote, or buy a JD;)

Kennyd is correct. The oem valve stays in the same basic location and is operated remotely by cables from the remote joystick.

JJ is on the right track.

Add a piece of steel plate to move the valves, handle and all back toward you.

I have the same machine and complaint.

I think there may be enough hose to move back with out a lot of work

The plate will bolt to the tractor in it's orginal place and the valve/joystick will bolt to the plate.

I think I am going to check this out and get it fixed once and for all.

I just took a look, the whole control bolts to a 3/8 inch thick mount that is welded to the loader mount.

A piece of 3/8 plate formed and drilled to create an extention should clear it up.

May have to extent the hoses to the loader depending on how far you move it.

Just to be clear, the control valve/joy stick is one assembly.

If you wanted to go the cable route, I would guess that would require new valve and joystick, I will defer to others for that solution.
