What with 2 diesel tractors & 1 diesel truck, I'm tired of constantly doing the 5 gallon fuel container thing. Local distributor right down the road sells diesel and I'd like to get a couple of 55 gallon drums + barrel pump to take the place of all the 5 gallon containers. But not sure how to get the barrels from A to B. Is there some kind of attachment I could connect to the loader on the tractor to lift full barrels of diesel? Also have forks for the tractor but don't think I'd feel comfortable going the pallet route.

Check with the local people they MAY delver to you for free or very little cost. Put in a 100 or 250 gallon holding tank on pedestal or with pump and call & have it filled, then track usage or put on a GAL USED gauge to know when to re-call for fill...

I would use the blue plastic barrels but make sure they are the DOT barrels.
You can wrestle the barrels on and off of forks without using pallets. Just strap them to the tractor for safety.
I used to drive for Roadway Express and had a delivery of a 55 barrel of some kind of chemical. They didn't have a loading dock. They piled 3 10.00-20 tires with no rims on the ground and rolled the barrel off onto the tires!! They said they do it all the time.
I made them sign the BoL BEFORE unloading!

If it's just from the truck into your shop, push them over and roll them. They are really tough.

I use 55 gallon drums for diesel fuel. You are allowed to transport two of them. I easily lift the drums to and from my dump trailer to get them filled. I use the 55 gal drum lift from Harbor Freight SKU# 45086. It cost about $25 on sale. Works beautifully using a chain wrapped around my pallet forks on the FEL. Easily accomplished single handedly. A Harbor Freight tool that works and you won't have to return when it won't.............. work! The use of off road diesel saves $0.79/ gallon presently over the cost of on road diesel here in SE Pa. Easily pays for the cost of the storage and handling equipment in a short time, and I love the convenience of having fuel when I need it.

I use a 100 gallon tank on a 6 ft. stand and when empty I put the pallet forks under it and load it on the back of the pick-up. I fill it and then put it on the stand again. It uses gravity through filter and 1 " hose. It doesn't run real fast but fast enough and easier than painful 5 gallon cans.
