Took a couple of days off and have been clearing the mess left behind by the thinning company. I cannot believe the amount of stuff!!
The tractor has worked like a champ. I built some brush forks for it an they are the ticket. Too much for the 336D though so will look at renting a bulldozer. to many stumps!!
Thanks guys for all you help in getting the tractor running!!

It appears that you will have a big burn pile after the work is completed. Nice job with your tractor and pallet forks.

Hope you did not expect your logger to haul that rotted beetle-killed pine you are piling up. The other stuff looks like limbs from the limbing gate pile. If you wanted it piled did you specify that to the logger pre-work? They normally scatter the debris back through the woods on thinnings. It is best for nutrient recycling as well as erosion control and does not leave a big pile after there through like your making. Right now your pile is actually relitivly small, but had you asked and stayed on top of them they would of made 2 large piles for you one on the dock and one by the limbing gate (if they usesd one).

I am a forester and deal with this stuff daily though.

I bought the property after it was thinned. wanted to plant food plots in the trails and clean the dock up so I can park the camper on it. They did more piles than scatter. Would a mulching head clean it up?

Absolutly!! Those thing are miricle workers! They will take those woods and if done right will look like they were that open all along. Youwill then be able to run your bush hog through the woods in about 2 years after more rotting and the reqrowth occurs. I have seen a few spots done on property that i manage and it turns out absolutly beautiful. The Forest Service is actually doing a good bit of it around my house. But i think there doing it to get "ladder fuels" down so that they can better burn the woods later.

If there were lots of small piles thoughout the woods thats the "attempt" to scatter the debris. But is the result or a lazy or less skilled tractor (skidder) driver. They should gradually open the grapple letting it slip out a little bit at the time till they get to the next drag. This sometimes doesnt alway happen and they drop the whole grapple in one spot and just run over it to flatten it a bit more, but your right its little piles that form that are about the size of a heaping truckworth of trash all over. If i see this i make them take the blade and push it flatter and spread it out a bit.
