Any one here used a 6000 to cut hay with? Will it run a mower conditioner in say about 9' length?

Yes and Yes! I run a 8ft cut disc mower with my 6000 4x4. Tall thick grass slows it down, but it has done the job for about 5 years now. I suspect the 6000 would do fine with a 9ft cut sickle type mower conditioner. A disc type mower conditioner will take some more horsepower.

Reading some of the lit on these mowers it says you need a cab, is that true? What make of cutter do you have?

Mine is a Fort First Choice. Fine machine. It's took a beating. The cab would offer more protection, but lots of people mow with only the kevlar curtain for protection. My dad mowed 38 acres with the curtain up! I said man I gotta watch you more losely!
There are lots of good brands out there. Fort, Lely, Deere, New Holland, Mortl, Vermeer. I know I'm leaving some out. Send CCI a PM he won't lead you astray.

I run a hesston PT-10 behind my 6500 no problem. I have never had any issues with debris flying towards me. But the ragweed does make me sneeze like crazy sometimes so maybe the cab filters the air :).

A rotary mower is much more dangerous IMO. You definitely have to keep a sharp eye on what you are mowing over. If you run over a log you could really have some problems.

Yea, makes sense. I am thinking I will use my 1086 to mow with and the 6000 to pull the baler. Vermeer has a 5410 baler that req 40 hp, recommends 50 and will do a 4x5 bale.

I run a 510 john deere baler that is supposed to take 70 hp with my 65 hp 6500 just fine. You need the 4wd to pull that sucka up the hill though loaded.

It makes a 5x6 bale.
