I just saw this thread.

Very cool machine you have going on there. I like the chipper, DF branches can be a pain since a mower will just run over the top and leaves those little straight poles in the grass.

It slices right through green branches but dried, hard wood is scarey!

if you think we're bad, you ought to try some of the other forums I visit. They are hard to get a bite out of!!

I, like others just saw this post. Nice build!!Probably the only thing I hesitate in appalding you on is the choice of spindles, but understand that was probably due to using what was on hand. I did a larger version (7' 6") to pull behind my Ford 1100 13hp 4x4 tractor and used boat axle spindle hubs (3500 pound cap) with custom made spindles. The deck got traded for some electrical work that I needed done before I ever finished it, (but I had to finish it as part of the deal) so I never got to try it out. Since I still have 3 of those spindles, maybe I need to start another deck project.... (NOT!!!)

For a while there I thought maybe I forgot to bait the hook. I agree on the MTD Spindles. Sadly they were the only choice at the time. What makes them weak is the Aluminum Housings. When these go into failure mode I'll upgrade to better ones for sure. The little Chipper works better than I hoped for. It makes me want to build a full size one with a standard cutting blade setup. It's also easy to remove. 4 bolts.

I paid $2300 for my PTO chipper 8 years ago. Worst piece of equipment I have bought so far. If I had it to do over again... But that's a different story. Even with 35 PTO HP, chip that stuff when it's green. Huge difference. Easier on everything and not so dusty. Nasty business, chipping that dry stuff.

Nice build, John. I see you are in Puyallup. I would like to see your project up close and personal. I want to do something similar for my Simplicity 3112H but I would like to make it front-mounted so the tractor doesn't push all the grass (hay) down before it gets cut.
