Sears Craftsman
I have a Sears Craftsman 24HP model 944-608830 which has 205 hours and runs like a top and has since new. The original belts are still on the tractor. How often as a rule should the belts be changed? They appear to be OK but a fellow suggested that they should be changed every 2 to 3 years.I purchased the tractor in Oct. of 2008. Thanks for your help in advance.

Change them when they break! I have a 2000 new holland gt22 with over 700 hours with the original belts. Same with my zero turn 2007 480 hours original belts. I never engage the pto at anytime with the engine above half throttle. Both machines are kept inside out of the weather. Now if a visual inspection you see cracks or wearing then replace the belt. I would not use any belts made in China, inferior rubber compound.

Thanks for your input. My tractor is kept inside as well and doesn't appear to have any cracking etc. on the belts. I'll wait to see visible wear and tear and then replace.
