Mower link adjustment problem

I tried to install the MMM on my BX2350 and found that I had to remove the lock nut on the mower link adjusting bolt to be able to thread the bolt in far enough to raise the deck enough to be able to lock the hydraulic control knob in the highest setting. I guess I could buy a thinner lock nut which should allow the bolt to stay in its current adjustment position but I am wondering if this situation is a symptom of a greater problem. Over the years I've had to adjust it a few times but never to this level. The linkages seem straight and there is nothing to impede the normal linkage operations. Does anyone have an idea what's causing this problem?
