I had one of those Einstien type light bulbs go off while looking at my lawn and noticing how bad winter makes it look. Some dead grass lots of thatch looking stuff, just looking like it's in the need of a good raking. Being lazy like I am, there is always a better way.

Here is my idea:

Get some rubber rake teeth from tractor supply, and mount them on the leading edge of my mower deck (5' king cutter, 3pt, finish mower). I would figure out some way to attach them as not to leave bolt heads on the inside of the deck(for cleaning purposes). This would de-thatch the lawn while I mow, and the height could be adjusted with the mower.

I figured I should ask before I do, so everything is hashed out before I waste my time. What do you think?

actually place them on the trailing edge and it will help mulch the clippings.

I've see spring type tine dethatchers that mount on the front of tractors and riding mowers. Even if there isn't one made for your specific machine, seems to me it'd be a lot easier to rig a mount for one of them than to hack up your mower deck.

Personally, I have several self propelled dethatcher/fertilizer applicators. Some folks call 'em chickens...
