When the grass comes in (hopefully) I'll have about 3/4 acre in all to cut. Would that justify a mid mower for my B7500 or should I just get a riding lawn mower?

Mid mount mowers can really get in the way when you're doing other fun things. I would only put one on a dedicated mowing machine, or at least one not used off the beaten path.

Seems a lot of money for no more than 30 minutes of mowing.

I would just get yourself a nice 48" walk-behind mower: Scag, Exmark, Toro, Hustler, etc. for that sized lawn.

I would compare prices and see what the difference is between some kind of dedicated mower and the MMM.

The MMM is not that big of a deal to put on or take off in my opinion, but if you had a dedicated mower you would have the grass on 3/4 acre cut in the time it took to put the mower deck on your B7500 and take it back off again...

You also would probably want to take the loader off when cutting the lawn, if it is a lawn you are shooting for rather than a yard.

But using the tractor has to be more enjoyable than using a walk behind or cheap rider mower...

Still...if 3/4 acre is all you plan to cut now and forever, a dedicated machine may be the way to go. Now if you are going to continue to expand the lawn over the coming years, the advantage could go to the tractor mounted mower.

A RFM could be the way to go. It is cheaper, can do a pretty good job of mowing, and is just another implement to hook up to the back...depends on how many things you have to cut close to and around though. A RFM did not really suit my needs...but it did cut well.

Have you ever run a walk-behind? I think they are a blast (with or without the sulky) -- I have just as much fun cutting with my Scag as I do with my Kubota. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I see you have a backhoe, but I don't see which brand. Keep in mind that Kubota mid-mowers are not compatible with some backhoes.

There have been several threads on this site about "mid" versus "rear" finish mowers. I have two Kubotas; one with a mid mower and one with a rear mower. The condensed version of my story is that when the mowing tasks do not suggest one type mower over the other I pefer the rear-mower because of the easier maintenance. I prefer the mid-mower when mowing on steep terrain (better stability). One other issue is obstacles. When mowing under tree limbs or over the edge of cliffs / steep drop-offs, the rear mower performs better. When obstacles are houses, fences or other obstacles that require greater tractor maneuverability then the mid-mower is the better choice (even though in most cases the rear mower can accomplish the task also).

Good luck,
Kelvin
