Guys,

I've got a little mowing business going. I'm looking for an efficient way to keep real time data on acres mowed. I've got a 20ft shredder. I've looked at Raven Cruizer II. It looks like it will do what I need, but it's $1,600 +. I'd like to see if there is anything better or cheaper. I'm ok with buying it but want to hear from folks that have done this. Seems like all u really need is distance traveled and implement size. My tractor is a 6115D. So I'm limited on electronics.

What are you mowing and why do you need to know real-time data?

Distance and implement size would only be effective if you were 100% efficient with your passes and never had to make any turn arounds? But a simple GPS unit tracks MPH and distance traveled.

While I dont know what you are mowing and why you need realtime, for my mowing and bidding jobs, I use a website findlotsize.com Uses a google satellite map and you just plot the points and it will give acreage.

There are distance/gps meter/apps for droid and apple available. Why not use one of them in concert with the phones stopwatch/timer. For sizing purposes, googleMaps should do it.

A quick rule of thumb is width in feet times speed in mph divided by 10 to find acres per hour but if you want a little more accuracy there are online calculators like this one for example.

Mowing pasture, about 1000 acres in one pasture alone. And usually u put in an overlap like 1-2 feet to cover inefficiently using the shredder. It's helpful to know how much you have done on a daily or weekly basis. I have used area calculators on my hand held gps. I can get a pasture size, then keep using it as the day goes along. Then it tells me how much is left. Which Then tells me how much I have done. I just don't think it's that accurate.

Ditto I learned that simple formula many years back and it's fairly accurate.

In case anyone finds this thread later I bought the Raven Cruizer II and it works great. I'm glad I purchased it. It's what you need if you are mowing professionally (large acre pastures)
