Loader Muffler ideas ?

I have a Kubota L3010, muffler is about shot. dealer price is over $300, has anyone had any luck on aftermarket muffler? or can I straight pipe it about the way the exhaust is routed, same size pipe etc... would there be any problems with back pressure with this small diesel engine ?

You should be able to come up with something that will work. We have a Jacobsen HR5111 wide area mower at our church and our mechanic was able to utilize a non stock muffler for it. The cost through Jacobsen would have been over $600. Worst cast scenario you may need to take it to a muffler shop and have a custom fit done.

If you are going to go the 'straight pipe' route, I would send the pipe up so it vents out the top over the cab if any or at least over your head. Mufflers are also spark arresters.

I've had an aftermarket muffler on my BX for about 4 yrs and when I first converted it to straight up exhaust, I used a round muffler from TSC. That muffler was straight through and too loud so I found a 1 1/2" inlet/outlet from a 97 Honda Civic that has worked well and is quiet as the original. I don't think you will like the straight pipe, loud enough it makes ears bleed.

Heck U you'd not believe what I have done for mufflers.
For a snow sled I used a propane bottle and brazed flex tubing,
For my old MG B, I used the glass packed 'red bullets' putting 2 in a row and that was the sweetest sound ever.
On on old MG TD I used a straight pipe from a swing set and added a can at the end with a hand full of steel wool.
OK none would pass California regs but the LEO's never bothered me.
The auto parts store 'glass packs' (cheap) will often fill your needs.
For diesel heat is not your problem so a lot is permissible unlike gassers.

I priced one like is on my Rhino, for my Ford 3000 when I still had it because the Rhino muffler was quite a bit quieter.
Never got around to actually ordering it- but Farm Boys quoted me about $80 a few years ago
This muffler was much quieter than the new replacement Ford muffler i did buy and install, but it was dirt cheap- like under $30. For the price the Ford 2000, 3000 replacement mufflers are about as inexpensive as you can find that are Ok to use on a diesel.
