I have not I assume you want more horse power I have seen that mentioned here before. I myself have a Coleman 5000 watt generator and it is very loud. We only use it if the power goes out for a day or so, and thankfull that does not happen often.I would like to buy an after market replacement to bolt on and quiet that beast down. If anyone reads this and knows what I can try please let me know.

Well I am looking for something to open up a couple of my saws. I know there isnt alot of hp to be gained, but a choked up as the inside of the mufflers are, it has to make the saw run better.

Depends on the saw how much you will gain. On a MS290 I seen 23% quicker 1 cut times after muffler mod and carb re-tune. Seen about the same gains on MS390 I just did.

Jeff Lary, I also have a 5000 watt generator that is loud and sometime back I was looking into a different muffler to quiet it down. In my research on it I read that just adding a muffler to it would add too much back pressure and the solution was to go to a motorcycle shop and get a muffler made for a 2 cycle ATV. These quieted them down and did not create the back pressure. Most shops have stock ones they have taken off new bikes for cheap.

One other thing is that these types of generators have a lot of mechanical noise. You quiet down the exhaust but the generator parts themself make a lot of noise. Solultion was to make a enclosure to put the gen in with the backside open pointed away from the house.

In the end I decided to save my $ and get a dedicated standby generator for the house.

yea thanks i will look into that Idea.I could afford a better one but even if i spent $3000.00 it would sit as much as the $300.00 one does.

Muffler mods are great on some saws, but they all respond differently.

IMO, the higher end saws have more to gain vs the lower end saws.

And if I remember correctly, I think the # is 80%

That means, take the muffler off and measure the exhaust port. You want the muffler opening to be ~80% of what the port is:thumbsup: So you can either open up the existing hole more or add another hole to get to the 80%

Ya mean an expansion chamber, like on the saw competion circuit? I'v had them on trailbikes..Noisy, but effective..
