Members are reading the thread in Related Topics named TBN STICKERS and asking about how to buy or win some TBN merchandise. I told them about the 2,000,000 post contest back in 2010 and how it wound up raising $1000 for a great charitable cause thanks to the generous TBN members and your kind donation. Members would really like another contest or even more TBN merchandise put up for sale.
The 2010 thread was :) New TBN Jacket now up for auction for charity

Why do people need merchandise to feel good? No need to toot your horn or show off. Why not simply donate to your favorite charity.

Seems all the money goes to the organizer's favorite charity; Not mine. 😏

Good question. How many people post they “got a hat” after buying a mower, tractor or something else major?

It’s a cheap thing a dealer can give that makes people happy.

Because that rarely happens without incentive. When I'd see a large party for a fundraiser for a charity, I'd always ask myself why don't they just give the money that they spent on the catering and event center directly to the charity instead, and if everyone would just donate what they were gonna donate, the charity would get more money in the end.

But that's not how things happen. Many years ago I asked a mentor of mine why we do this, as it seemed very wasteful to me. He explained how greasing the skids with incentives makes more money flow VS just asking for donations. Having never attended fund raising events until the past 10 years, my wife and I now see how things work. It's silly and wasteful, but in the end, more money flows to the charity had there not been a fund raising event. Strange, but true. Go figure.

100%. I can’t tell you how many charity events we have attended and donated toward that, without the “event” wouldn’t be on our radar screen.

We have also invited friends to attend that then donate - same situation in that it wouldn’t be on their radar.

Also, many events have silent and actual auctions that raise money. People are much more likely to bid in person (after a few drinks) than online.

It is very very very difficult to raise money by sending letters, telephoning or email. It really does not work.

Finally, I have seen where drinks, food and even the venue at times are donated helping to offset the cost of the event.

I learned way back when I was involved with convention like events that if U wanted press coverage you had do serve drinks whenever you did a press conference.
PR release without a (wet) conference simply did not work.

Now I chuckle whenever I read "A portion of the revenue will go to charity", always wonder how many exceed 1% of even net profit. (and perhaps even net net after all taxes at that)
