I have a 42C mower deck that is on my LX 279. I'm considering installing a mulch kit to make it into a Mulcher. Does the mulch kits really make them "Good Mulchers", even tho the deck was not designed to mulch?
I'm just wondering, because I use it on a lawn at my business in town, so it only sees normal grass cuttings, no crazy long weeds, grass, etc.

The grass is so thick and heavy that I am always raking, or bagging all the extra clippings. Will this Mulch Kit really mulch them in, and get rid of them, or is it a bad idea?

Thanks in advance!

I have a mulch kit for my 42c deck on my GT225. It works well IF you mow often and go fairly slow. There's never grass piles left that need raking. Since I don't have the time or desire to mow every five to seven days I don't use it much.
With the mulch kit on the deck doesn't seem to lift the grass well if you cut high, say 4". Lower is better.

It works great on leaves if their not too thick. I would buy it again just for the leaves.

I have the 44" parhanna mulcher on my LX279 and have used it for 10 years on over 1 acre. It works great because it is designed as a mulcher. However for you it would be an excessive expense for you to get the different deck and install it. I have no experiance with the deck you have, but mulching with something would save you some 'time from raking and bagging' which is also expensive. No bagging for me for 10 years.

ya, I end up mowing it with the chute up, and scattering most of the grass to the middle. Then I let it dry a few hrs, and then use the bagger and suck up all the clippings. The grass is so juicy that there is no way to bag it all the first time, as it plugs the pipe to the bags really easy. One the clippings are dry, I can suck them up super fast. Its just a pain tho.

Thanks for the input!

With the mulch kit do any clippings come out side discharge? I have GT235 and wondered about a mulching kit.
