Mulching Kit with Gator Blades?

I've got a LT150 with Gator Blades on a 38" deck. I installed the Gator Blades right at the beginning of last fall so I've been bagging all through winter. This weekend I mowed with the Gator Blades side discharging the clippings for the first time and ended up with rows of clippings. I'm mowing tall fescue and the grass was not terribly high as I have been mowing throughout the winter.

Do most people use a mulch plug with Gator Blades on fescue? Would you recommend the JD mulching plate (just a flat plastic plate) or the mulching kit with the ramp? Will Gator blades work with the mulching kit ramp?

Hi Wayne - I can't answer for this specific model, but on another Deere, the mulch kit with the ramp worked much better than the mulch plate. The mulch plate was compatible with the gator blades, but the full mulch kit's ramps interfered with the kickup on the gators - not compatible.

My best results were with the full mulch kit and the blades that came with it, followed by the stock deck with the gators, with the simple mulch plate coming in third.

I use the Gator blades on my X-300 42 inch side discharge and the work great with the mulching plug that fits inside the deck.

TimS - have you ever tried gator blades with a simple mulch plate? From your reply, I'm not clear if you tried the 2nd and 3rd options together or separately.

V1Rotate - Are you using gators with this mulch plug?

You know, I don't recall if I actually tried the Gators with the mulch plate or just used the stock blades - I upgraded to a larger deck shortly thereafter, and with the Gators I have not felt a need to install the mulch kit.

I traded my X300, but the last few years I was using the mulch kit (plug like pictured) with the gator blades.
