Since the Mule 610 isn't as wide as other UTV's would it be more prone to rollover?

Not if you don't put one of those ridiculous high lift kits on it. Plus it is limited to 25mph. Unless you diddle with it.

I have a Mule 610 and run it on some pretty steep hills here in WV. Its VERY stable. You would have to almost try to roll it.

I致e been thinking of getting a 610 Mule for 2 years now for our camp in Harrison county Ohio but the lack of engine braking has kept me from doing it. There have been many occasions when I have hauled 3 or 4 of us out of the woods dragging a deer or two in 1st gear up & down hills on our Honda Forman 500S 4x4. Before that we used a 2wd 350 Rancher. Both of these ATV痴 really gave me confidence going down hills.

I am now holding out for the Kubota RTV500 that is said to have a hydro drive and should have excellent engine braking.

Do you fear, worry or dislike the lack of engine braking in the 610?

I hear that all the time but my 1310 does have engine braking as long as the engine is running.

I have a mule 610 and some large steep hills here. The lack of engine braking initially concerned me but as the brakes wore in they have actually gotten better than when they were new. If I get tired of holding the foot-brake on the way down I can grab the E-brake and slow things down quick. Sometimes I modulate between the foot-brake and E-brake. Over time I found that by turning up the idle a little bit it helps keep the clutch engaged which gives me some engine brake as long as the revs don't drop below the threshold of the clutch engagement window. I have over 400 hours on mine. We use it all the time. Just fluid and filter maintenance. Coupla spark plugs. Its been reliable for us.

Good Morning,

Well we finally got to spend an hour or so riding a mule 610 on our land thanks to a neighbor getting a new one 1st and letting us test it out. We have tested a Rhino 450 on our land so we are using that as a bench mark as well as our Honda Foreman 500S 4x4 ATV.

The wife and I took a ride down our local dirt road and quickly realized how slow 25 MPH is. Next we drove up our long drive and noticed the lack of power or pickup on the hill. We then proceeded up a bigger hill which leads to the back part of our place and we routinely scoot up it on our ATV so it痴 pretty rutted. We quickly realized the suspension does not even come close to the Rhino or Honda and there is nothing for my wife to grab unto. She is on the small side 5?? and could not reach the roll bar grab handle so she resorted to hanging onto my arm. We then proceeded to drive up one of our steepest hills in 4x4 low. We made it to the top but did notice some traction loss and the grass was bone dry. If it was wet or icy it would have been a challenge to make it up. Coming down scared her enough she said no to the Mule. We drove around some more and confirmed the Mule 610 was not for us. In regards to rollover, we never really felt like it was going to tip. We topped off the gas and returned it to our neighbor.


The wife really liked the Rhino mostly due to its smooth ride and grab handles. I liked the power and down hill engine breaking. Not bashing the Mule, it sure is an attractive package with common sense design that痴 very proven.

Just wanted to give you my read on the Mule 610
