Hi, I have a MF 50 with multi power. It started to slip in high range this winter and then stoped engaging all together. What do you guys think is most likely to be the problem? Could it just be an adjustment? Because I Did get it to engage in high once after it had stoped engaging for a while but when I shifted it to low it wouldn't go back to high again.
Thanks,

I'll start you off with this ,check your linkage from the dash down to the bellhousing.Right at the bellhousing there's a clamp on the rod make sure it's not loose and slipping. It has to be adjusted a certain spot in order for it to engage and disengage.Try that first and let me know what you find. That would be the first and simplest thing for you to try.You do know that on a Multi power tractor you need it to work especially if your in hilly terrain. The Multipower also acts as engine braking, with it not working and going downhill in gear is dangerous as the tractor will run away.Another thing is check to see if the oil filter for the mulipower[it's located at the front of the tractor in front of the rad.Its a washable screen,it can be washed out with solvent??.There's also more but try this first and let me know.Hopefully this will get it working for you.:thumbsup:Larry

The linkage is thight. And the filter is the same one as for the hydraulic pump, since the multi power clutch runs of the the hydraulic pump. And I just replaced that filter. I wonder if it's a combination of things, Because the three point hitch isn't too powerful. Maybe the hydraulic pump needs to be rebuilt. Or maybe the pto/hydraulic clutch is slipping under load. And I guess it could be seals and rings too.

You do realize that in the bell housing there is a control valve in there, that the rod activates a shifter fork[so to speak] that moves the valve to give pressure to the clutch pack in the trans.I didn't have any problems with that on mine but I did end up having to change the fiber clutches in the clutch pack.Mine were worn out.Mine did slip quite bad if you were in high and gave it throttle it would rev up and slowly speed up.I never had any problems with the 3pth lifting. What you can do to see if your pto clutch is slipping is put on some sort of implement and drive it with the pto you'll soon find out if the pto clutch is slipping.I can't recall what I had to do to change the clutches for the multipower.Don't remeber if I had to split the tractor and open the trans or if I was able to do it thru the top after removing the shifter fork cover. As for the filter I have a MF 175 not sure what the MF50 has but there's actually 2 filters on mine. One is at the front of the tractor[front of the rad] and the main one is inside the trans sitting on top of the hydralic pumps notice 2 pumps[main & acialliary pump.] That filter is only accesable once you have the rock shaft cover off I believe, its not something that gets done, lots of work for me to clean that one.If your losing hydralic power then pump is getting weak. All I can suggest is if you already have or don't have one but a pressure gauge and check the hydralic pump pressure,if its good then you'll need to change the clutches in the multipower clutch pack, Sorry I can't give you any better news then this.Larry:)

I don't have any auxiliary hydraulics to test the pressure on. Is there any other way? I have the multi power clutch out, do you know how thick in .000ths the plates are supposed to be? Since I have the tractor split maybe I should do a clutch job anyways. And maybe the seals and rings on the main and pto shaft.
thanks, Jesse

And yes I do know that there is a valve iin the bell housing. And I looked it over and I don't think thats the problem. Jesse

Hey there Jesse if you PM me your home e-mail I'll send you some pages from my manual to try and help you out. It's for a MF 175 but it'll be the same procedure for the 50.As for the plate thickness I can't tell you that. When I did mine they were shot worn right out to the steel backing in places.Larry.
