murder by tractor

This story was origionaly reported as an accident. One and one half miles north of my place last June a woman was crushed to death while using a tractor with a front end loader.

It was reported that she was driving the tractor and somehow ended up under the tractor. Details were not released, but I commented to my wife that it seemed like an unlikely thing to happen. There are all kinds of ways that you can kill yourself with one of these things but running yourself over is a long shot, and ending up under the loader is even a more difficult.

The street sign in the video that is being blown around in the frozen wind is at the corner of my road. The guy driving the plow truck is most likely my neighbor, the man who was grading the road when my barn caught on fire and called it in to the fire department. His quick action saved my house.

Now he is staring in a news report about murder by tractor!

Farming sure is dangerious business.

Because no one replied here I'll just say the first thing that came to mind had nothing to do with a tractor, but made me think of an incident right in our town where a guy killed his brother in law with an air nailer on a job site the both were working on.

He tried to claim it was an accident but when they found six 16 penny spikes in the victims head they realized it was no accident.
Apparently they were arguing over money, one of them lived right across the street from the site.

DOPE, It'll do wonders for your family relationships.

Not sure if it was murder, I've seen, heard and read about some wierd accidents over the years. I remember one about an elderly lady mowing her lawn on a rider. She fell off somehow and the machine mowed right on top of her. This happened many moons ago so there weren't all the safety switches of today.

Well the question that never gets asked is what drove him to it? I mean why? At least with a divorce you get to keep 1/2 your stuff and the church will forgive a divorce. I dislike my ex, but I really would hate having a male roommate for the rest of my life.

Well now we will need a 7 day waiting period on loader tractors.

Not sayin he did or didn't do it, but the persecutor will have a tough time. Heck there was a story here where a county worker was filled by him self run over on a County road.

Heck there are many people killed and run over by tractors.

Apparently his story of what happened changed over time, which can be suspicious. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens in court...innocent until proven guilty etc.

Just because it is possible to run oneself over with a tractor doesn't mean he didn't kill her. And it doesn't mean he did.

Yes when it was first reported, the news said that she was operating the tractor and somehow she ended up under the front end loader. It is a long way from the tractor seat to the ground under the loader, and it is kind of hard to reach the loader control valves when you are standing in front of the tractor. It will be interesting to see how this thing plays out.

I worked at a Swartses greenhouse in New Boston Michigan when I was a kid. We had these little Allis Chalmers tractors that had the motors in the rear. They looked like little road graders. They had plywood platforms built on the front for carrying flats of flowers.

One of the local kids Mickey Sheets who was very accident prone got a job working there. He had several near disasters while working there and one of the most spectacular was the day he almost destroyed the largest greenhouse on the farm. I always tried to stay as far away from where Mickey was working as I possibly could. I liked running over and witnessing the aftermath and doing the rescue operations but I didn't want to participate in the creation of the disasters.

One day he stepped off one of the little A.C.'s using the clutch pedal as a step while it was running. We were told to never do that. Micky found out why. The tractor was still in gear. When he stepped down and released his weight off the pedal, the tractor lunged forward and planted him face down in flats of freshly wattered tomato plants and proceded to run him over, then it went another 20 feet or so and hit a support column that was holding up the greenhouse. It moved it far enough that it distorted the roof and 20 or 30 panes of greenhouse glass came raining down from about 20 feet overhead slicing everything in their path and embedding themselves in the ground.

Mickey was very lucky to end up with tire tracks accross his back and no other damage. I ran in just in time to help him up, turn off the tractor and help him dig the black potting soil out uf his eye sockets.

Some people are just not meant to be around equipment.

Anyone know what kind of tractor it was? Gear or HST?
