Murray lawnmowers

I have a 1989 Murray with a 14horse Briggs, it has logged more than 1000 hours. All it has ever needed was a carb rebuild, magneto, spark plugs, and a few batteries. it has been abused to an extent plowing snow, hauling logs, mudding, and cutting grass. Anyone else have one. I want to upgrade and buy a Yanmar YM1301D or 1401D, or a Kubota B6000, but my dad wont allow it.

A guy I worked with gave me an old Murray lawnmower that he forgot to refill with oil after draining it. I got it for my son when he was 8 years old. I put a 6 hp briggs engine on it, a larger pulley on the engine shaft,removed the mowing deck and bought tractor tires that fit the rear lawn mower wheels. Then I took the spring off the gov. , put a hand throttle and a straight exhaust stack. My son drove the thing for 6 years. It would run 18 mph and pull like you wouldn't believe. I put a shoe on the back so it wouldn't flip over when he did wheelies with it. Had a weight that could be put on the front or removed easily. He drove that thing all over the farm. 100 acres of open land and trails in the woods. He's 20 years old now and still talks about it from time to time. He cracked the frame and I'd weld it back together. It finally broke all the way across the area where you set your feet. Took it to the scrap yard then. That engine was still running and have that stored away incase I have a need for it. It sure was built tough because he ran the heck out of it. He always liked running it at night so he could see the flame out the exhaut stack. He'll never forget it as long as he lives.

*I'will never forget the motorized go cart me and my cousin and his dad built and the hours and hours of fun We had on it for years after having built it.
This was back around 1953 through 1956
There wasn't such a thing as a go cart back then so it was a one of a kind thing.

I used to live near Chicago, and I had a friend that lived not too far from you in South Barrington on 10 acres in a Frank Lloyd Wright house.
