Mahindra 5500
I purchased a 5500 about 3 weeks ago. Overall I have been very happy with it. There is a problem that needs to be pointed out so others don't have it also. The entire bottom end in the rear is put together with pins. I have lost one of my sway control arms because the pin fell out and the arm fell also. Been looking in the pasture about 10 times and still couldn't find it. Luckily my dad works at a machine shop/fab shop and was able to build me one. I am replacing every pin on it with grade 8 bolts and nuts today. I do not want to lose anything else. So far I have had to replace 6 pins.

Wow! Have you contacted the dealer?

Anyone else have this problem?

I lost one clip which caused a pin to fall out of the 3pt arm about a year ago but, that's it. The 10 series that I have is completely different than the 00 series, I'm not sure if they are set up similar or not. I havent babied it however. When I first got it I hogged the overgrown fields, going over some stuff far larger than the cutter was rated for and nothing came apart.

I think that is what part of my problem is also. This is a toy/tool and I use it hard. I am trying to reclaim overgrown land so it sees pretty rough use. I don't abuse it, but I do work it to its capicity at times.

Kenneth, I don't believe you can work it hard enought to hurt the 00 series. My guess is that it was delivered without/missing a "clip" thru the pin. I've had my 6000 for almost 2 1/2 years and have not had anything like that happen. It is impossible for the clips to "unwind" themselves and out of a pin. Get a new one from the dealer. Good luck to you in the future. BobG in VA

Bob- This is not the ones with the key chain style. its the lnych pins that flip over. I was about to replace 3 of them with the grade 8 bolts. I will have to wait for a big tree or something to use as a jack to do the others. I did have one that wouldn't take the bolt so I used a HD black pin from TSC.

Oh, by the way, you right about tearing them up. My 5500 is tough as nails, it just keeps going and going.

I also have lost a lynch pin -circle that flips over, from the 3PH. I have four of them -two on each side- towards the front of the tractor. The others are "ring" type similar to a key ring.

I was lucky enough to catch it before the pin it was holding was all the way out. I was busy so just replaced it. This thread reminds me to tend to these pins.

I have also lost two "e" clips from the front of the loader. They were located on the pins that hold the lower loader arms onto the attach plate. These were both lost at the same time -the first hard usage of the loader. I replaced them and have used the loader hard and long since then and the replacements are still there. Makes me think that they were either the wrong size, or not all the way on the pin.

Another concern for me is the loader bolts. Front bolts that hold the frame to the tractor, and the bolts on the inside of the rear tires. I check them once in a while and everytime I do, I find a couple -sometimes a few- that need retightening. I show the loader no mercy when I use it, and now after a prolonged use I feel I have to check them. Has anyone else experienced this?

I tighten the loader frame bolts about every 3 months. Sometimes they tighten, sometimes they are tight. I've gone to using an impact on the ones that I can get to with it. They usually stay tight. I'm not gonna use Loctite on them cause I'd have to take them out to do it. I tighten everything when I do maintenance. BobG in VA

I've lost a couple pins, maybe what's called an e-clip (hitch pins I think their called). Only lost the pin on one of them, it was the one at the bottom of the lift arm. Went to the dealer for a replacement. Now I've gotten to where I give a brief inspection after a heavy workout. Danny
