Looking at buying a 07 MX5000 4wd with the LB702 loader. Tractor and loader have just over 400 hours on it.

Wanting to use it as our all around yard tractor, rototill the garden and in between the rows of trees, drag the laneway, lift hogs and butcher cattle for skinning and dressing, lift and move round bales, and so on.

Our round bales are anywhere from 1400lbs to 2000lbs.

The loader is rated for just over 1800 lbs. The owner said he tried to lift a 1400lb round bale and he was unable to get if off the ground. Anyone know why that is?

Is this tractor the right fit for what i am wanting to do or should i look elsewhere?

PS: the price is right on it. So its not like i am way over paying.

from what i understand, the loader # is the kilo capacity of the loader. so the LB702 has a capacity of 1545 lbs. yes, the bypass valve can be adjusted, but...personally wouldn't recommend it. so if you are looking for a 2k lb capacity, i'd recommend a stronger/bigger loader. sounds like you are looking for an all around machine that can handle garden uses as well. personally, would recommend something bigger for the hay loads, and a smaller more nimble machine for garden, etc use. tough call. no, wouldn't go w/the Mx5000 for that heavy a bale. maybe with lots of ballast and loader adjustment....but it may be pushing the machine & safety limits. best regards

Loader measurements for lifting are usually taken at the bucket mounting pins and/or 500mm forward to approximate what can be lifted in the bucket. A round bale (on forks, probably), would have its weight centered quite a bit forward from the pins or the bucket, so it takes a considerably stronger loader than an LB702 to lift one of those big rounds to any height. That is also a lot of weight to be putting up in the air and 'way out front with a tractor of that size, even if you could get a loader that would lift it. Anything slightly out of line (a low front tire, a pothole or hump, slight side grade, etc.), could ruin a good day, even with heavy ballasting.

If the bales need moving on the ground, the tractor should handle a 3 point bale spear easily.

According to Tractor Data, the LB702 is rated (at the pin, mind you) to lift 1852 lbs to full height. The same tractor with the HD LA852 loader is similarly rated to 2470 lbs, so they feel that the tractor isn't the weak link. But, you'd be pushing it, with either loader. Not good.

I can only relay my experience about loaders so take my advise with a grain of salt. I had an L4610 with the factory loader that was rated at 1800lbs. It would easily lift 1400lbs if the load was back all the way on the forks. Two feet forward on the forks and all bets were off. You need some rpm's so the pump can have enough flow to lift the load. The loader would not lift 2000lbs, it was too much! It was a very good tractor but did not have the loader capacity I needed so I traded for an M5660.
