MX5100 Finally arrived!

My new MX5100 finally arrived late this afternoon. I did two laps around the orchard with the FEL on, and then did two more laps with the FEL off. All total I put one hour on her. Didn't go above 2000 RPM. She was a bit bouncy with the FEL on, however when I took the FEL off she felt like my previous L3700, on STEROIDS. Solid, sure footed, nimble, and powerful. My two previous Kubota's had R4's, these are my first R1's. I was a bit nervous about the change, but so far so good. Mine is the HST version, and one of the first things I noticed was how smooth and fluid it changes direction. I think this was the perfect choice for my operation. It's bigger then the L3700 but not too big. The main reason I traded up was to run my new 300 gal. Rears Mfg. airblast sprayer, that is supposed to arrive in about two weeks. As I said in a previous thread, I hope I am as happy with the MX5100 as I was with the L3700. I don't normally name my tractors, but I think since I am going to be running the airblast sprayer alot, I am going to call her "Misty". I also bought an 84" FFC front Hyd. angle blade in the same deal. It has not arrived yet but I am going to have them mount the blade at the first service.

Thanks, my first thought was to bump up to the L4400 because it would have given me enough PTO hp to run the sprayer. But I saw this
MX5100 at the local Fair back in late August and Just couldn't resist.

the more you run your MX5100 HST the more youll love it.mine has close to 90hrs on it an i love it.cant beleive i waited this long to buy an 4x4 hst tractor.

Congratulations... good choice. That MX5100 will serve you well. The LA8xx series FEL's on the MX and larger Grand L's is quite a bit heavier than what goes on the smaller models... tractor will be front-heavy and "bouncy" until you get weight on the back for balance, as you've noticed.

Where's the pics??? You'll love this tractor. I have 10hrs on mine after a week and so far I am very happy. This coming weekend I'm planning to plow a field so we'll see how that goes.

Are you concerned about plowing a field with only 10 hours on the tractor? The book says take it easy the first 50 hours. I have work to do, I am wandering how I am going to put 50 hours on at 2000 rpm. I can only do laps around the orchard so long.
Normally I ignor the book but since this is such a major investment I was going to try to do things right. Actually, even reading the book is a first for me. I wanted to mow this weekend but I can't mow at 2000 rpm. Maybe somebody in the know will help us out on this one.

Does it specifically say not to run over 2000rpm for the first 50hrs? That seems a little long, as I recall the other Kubota's we've had said not to run at max RPM for the first 10hrs, or something to that extent. Regardless, there is nothing wrong with mowing at 2000rpms. Not sure where the PTO rpm is on that tractor, but I doubt it's a whole lot more than 2400-2500rpm or so. The bush hog won't know/care if it's only spun at 400-450rpms, just go use it and have fun.

Hey there I just wanted to post a major issue with this MX 5100 I have one and its super light.I know this because I put mine on 2 wheels side ways loading my truck with apple bins and using a bucket loader.This tractor is good for weed spraying and thats about it.Its don't pull my turbo mist 250 gal very well either.

I also have an MX5100 ( non hydro) and have right about 200 hours on it. It is pretty light in the rear, especially with a large load in the FEL. I loaded up the tires and put my box blade on the rear and it helped alot.

I bought mine out of necessity. We had a wicked winter two yrs ago and my driveway is 2.5 miles up over a mountian. MY little yanmar 2000 was totally overwhemled. I used my 64' snowblower and worked the crap out of the tractor. I worked it hard and it never missed a beat, and still runs great.

yes the MX5100s are a light tractor.an yes you need weight on the 3pt if your gonna do alot of lifting with the loader.if i hadnt of put the loader on mine for use an extra weight.i was going to put 300lbs of weights on the front end.my tractor is used alot to move an feed 5 by 6 bales.

Very true. I wouldn't lift much of anything with the loader if I didn't have ballast on the back no matter the tractor model. I keep my BH on most times (1200lbs) and it works great. Otherwise it's at least the BB which is about 650lbs.

Yes I do have some concern as I don't know whether at below 2000rpm it will be able to pull the plow correctly. I believe you are right with the numbers as I thought I read that as well so everything else I have done has been below 2000. I did bush hog at 1700 without any issues and I was cutting a field with 3-4ft growth.

id go ahead an start working the tractor like you want to now.as its ok to run to the rpms up over 2000 under load.

I have yet to have any problems working a new tractor from the start. I do vary the RPM occasionally and will let it cool down. I don't run full RPM on any of our tractors with the exception of a SCUT and even then not always.

The PTO speed on our 8540 is 2250 and I ran that the day we got it. Tractors were designed and built to work. JMHO

Watching this thread has been fun and interesting. The only mention I could find in my 5100 owner's manual regarding the break in is on page 17 of the manual. Operating the tractor,"to obtain the maximum performance and longest life of your tractor it is very important to properly break-in your tractor." Do not start quickly or apply the brakes suddenly. In winter, operate the tractor after fully warming up the tractor. Do not run the engine at speeds faster than necessary. On rough roads slow down to suitable speeds. Do not operate the tractor at fast speeds. The manual does not define fast speeds.

All that said, I have used my new MX as I plan to run it except that I have not run it as sustained RPM's above 2,000 RPM's. It is a great tractor and typical of Kubota, lightweight, but rugged and dependable. I use my tractors as farm tractors and also some construction type work. I have added about 25 feet of fill to my runway which is on a slope and I have moved some very large rocks with it during this process. The LA 844 loader is a brute and can handle more weight than the tractor can even with eco fluid in the rear tires (R4's) and the scraper box on the back. Even with that some of the rocks have made it quite "tippee" and I move with the load as low to the ground as possible and don't lift it above a foot or so until I get to the dump trailer. I have 44 hours on it now and I will check the fluids carefully for metal particles at the 50 hour service. I have had several tractors over the years and this is by far my favorite. It is a brute for its size and weight and I plan for it to be my last tractor. If it serves me as well as my other Kubota I will be well pleased. Sorry for the lenghty post, but I am really enthusiastic about this machine, and I wouldn't worry about over-working it during the break-in period. I would recommend let it idle down a bit before shutting it down to allow the turbo to cool. Whew!
