MX5100 injection pump failure

Bought new 5 years ago, 215 hours logged. Filters and maintenance performed as required.
Now it has a failure with the fuel injection pump. Dealer wants $2400 to repair it.
Is there a place that can rebuild the IP? I can remove and reinstall it.
I’ve worked on diesels for 40 years and have never seen a pump fail in such little time.

Spencer Diesel out of Iowa. Spencer Diesel. Premier rebuilder of pumps, turbos, and injectors. Sometimes you get lucky with them and they have a rebuilt one on the shelf already. I've only been it at it for half the time, but I've replaced more pumps the last 5 years then the 15 before that.

I would really appreciate knowing what happened to that pump!!?? I always thought the V2403 engines were pretty indestructible including their injection pumps.

in keeping with the OP's post, as an injection pump specialist, what are the most common problems re: pump failures, basically mechanical wear failures, or fuel contamination, water in system, etc.
had a pump shaft failure on a TO35 back when, but attributed it to a typical age related mech failure. regards

By far, fuel contamination & lack of basic maintenance..
No fuel filter changes, which lead to pumping plunger wear AND air filter changes which leads to cylinder wear and low compression..
ie: dusting the engine
I guess we can throw in regular engine oil and filter changes too..
But being strictly a “pump guy”.. it would have to be fuel contamination..old fuel, dirty fuel and Bio-fuel would be my top 3..
Then theres the problem of the hardened control sleeves, where the teeth break off..
& to be completely honest, I have never ran into this problem UNTIL I came to this site..(no kidding)

good point, all the more reason for scheduled fuel filter changes, reliable fuel suppliers, & proper storage tank maintenance. plus fuel treatment for the application. going back to the OP, still curious as to why the pump failed w/such low hrs.

Thanks for the info thepumpguysc!! Was wondering if you are aware of any known issues with the mechanical injection pumps on the Kubota V2403 engines?

Sorry for the delay. Here’s what happened.
At roughly 215 hours the v2403 developed a dead miss on cylinder 3. I determined this by loosening the injector lines.
It was noted that there was no fuel coming out of the number 3 delivery valve on the IP.
I removed and pop tested all injectors and although they looked ok I would not say they looked great for having only 215 hours on them. Spray pattern was not perfect. I’ll obtain new nozzles and address that later.
Meanwhile, I removed the IP, which is a Denso pump, tore it down to try to determine what failed.
I saw no scoring or broken parts. Everything looked very good so I put it back together and reinstalled it. Now it runs just fine.
I am puzzled as to what happened.
It did run out of fuel prior to this event but ran ok after refueling for a few minutes.
I’m thinking I got some contamination in the refuel and maybe caused one delivery valve to stick. Who knows…

Now, to try and sort out why the loader hydraulics bypasses when warm. She really looses power and barely lifts a bucket full of dirt when it’s warm. There must be a way to adjust the pressure.

Thanks for updating the thread. So you took it all apart, shrugged and put it all back together and it worked. I hate when that happens but atleast it wasn't an expensive fix and just cost you some of your time.
