Does anyone know if anyone makes an oversized radiator for a mx5100HST? I pull a landpride batwing and although the tractor does not overheat, when I stop and cut the machine off it will boil out via the overflow tube. I can prevent it if I allow the machine to run without the PTO engaged for about 5 mins before turning it off.

This is how you should shut it down.

I would also try flushing the radiator with water and or air. Even though there is a screen in front of it, there's probably a fair amount of dirt and other junk that is gone through the radiator and is now bugging the air passages. That will cause it to overheat much faster than it normally would.

I have the MX5800 and work it pretty hard in hot weather on occasion. I believe it uses the same radiator as the 5100. So far, I have not noticed the symptoms you describe. I assume you have done your radiator maintenance. These are all the basic things you probably have already done: Remove the screen, clean it and blow out the radiator core from the inside out. I made a special air nozzle to fit in the tight space behind the radiator. Also, if your antifreeze is more than a few years old, replace it. Check for sludge when draining and if present, flush it. Using a higher antifreeze to water ratio can also help.

It is possible someone makes a bigger radiator for the 5100. Try Messicks.

I wouldn't worry about the effort, I normally idle machines down while moving locations which gives you a few minutes cool down!

What you are getting is a heat spike. Radiators nowdays on everything from cars to equipment are just barely big enough to do the job when everything is 100%.
My L4600 even with the screen, when it just gets covered not even 1/4, it will heat up. (not into the red) The battery location sucks if your is in front of the radiator like on my L4600. Why Kubota puts it there and blocks airflow to the radiator I dont know. The tray they make for them could be 4-6 inches deeper putting the battery lower and allow more air flow to radiator.

Came across this thread and figured I'd revive it.

If I knew of a larger radiator that would fit I'd be a buyer as well.

I agree with Rmart30 that the thing is just barley big enough. Just mowed 7 acres monday. And this time a year, all the chaff and white fuzz stuff is terrible. I was stopping about every 15 min to clean. A real PITA

The radiator in the MX tractors is a SINGLE row radiator.

Alot of the older kubota radiators on the larger Grand L's and even into the smaller M's are 3 and 4 row radiators.

The whole design of the cooling system on the MX (and even the same on my old L3400) is terribly lacking.

Air filter blocks the upper half of the radiator, Right below that is the HST cooler with NO screen, but blocking all that is the battery.

Kicking around some ideas on how to make things better, and how to better seal the area as well. There was a thread about someone moving the air filter to behind the radiator above the engine on a branson. Not sure if there is room on the MX to do that. Also kicking around the idea of moving the battery location.

But a simple radiator with a few more rows that would bolt right in would make a world of difference by itself. But finding specs on different radiators is proving challenging. It would be nice if a radiator from one of the smaller M's like a 7040 was identical except a few more rows (thicker).

Has anyone here ever done any mods to help the MX cool better? I havent found any references to anyone that has? But would be nice to find someone who has already address these issues, and what the outcome was.

Sounds like a reverse fan would work for y’all. Keep the chaff from accumulating

I have thought about some way to drive a compressor off the engine, and have a small compressed air tank for blowing things out in the field.

Lots of places in the hot rod and racing world that can make a radiator in any configuration you want. You might contact one of them and give them the radiator measurements. They might even have something standard that is close.
