Pics today of mowing with the new-to-me Woods DS96. Its a nice cutter for sure.

And these next pics are of two different lots that I do 3 times a year. Lucky if I can stay on the seat much over 4-5 MPH. One is 3 acres the other 2 acres. Jobs like these make me wish for a 10' cutter.

Like your Woods Mower. Around here it's mostly 5-6 footers then after that it's go big. I always lean toward the Woods brand when thinking of another implement, to me they're very dependable and do a better job. I have 2 Woods 5" rotary mowers and a Howse 5'. The Woods is turning faster and does a better job at cutting grass than the Howse but the Howse is heavier and cuts brush and small trees quieter more of a bump bump instead of wham wham.:)

That's some fairly large fields for your 8 footer but loading and unloading means a lot if you move around from field to field. I just cut around the place here and the 5' is easy to get between the trees.

I remember reading one of your threads about looking for another cutter and I'm sure you didn't make a hasty decision but I think you made a good one on the Woods. So far I've never had buyers remorse with a Woods product.

Nice lookin cutter! Whats the weight? With no FEL, how light is the front?

I bought a DS120 last year. Woods makes a very nice cutter. Wish I had got a 3 point hitch model, lots of corners and edges to back into.

That's a really nice cutter for your tractor. We have a Woods DS1260 we use on our M8540, but it would be too heavy for our L5740. We got a pull type because the Case CX80 we had at the time wouldn't pick it up, we ran a Woods 120 3PH for light stuff.

Been looking for an 8 or 10' for awhile. The decision was actually more hasty than I wanted. @$2500 it was more than I wanted to spend, and would have preferred a 10' lighter cutter that I would have had time to modify and make the deck fold to trailer. But after looking for about the last month, there just wasn't much out there .

This was the best deal within a 2 hour drive.

1620# according to woods.

Front is real light. While mowing and cutter down, no issue. But have to back on the trailer. Need about 300-400# of front weights.

LD1, how's that Woods DS96 working for you?

I'm looking at some more property and I'll need an 8' cutter if I buy the property. But I'll have to be sure about the specs. I think my Kioti DK50 only has about 40hp at the PTO, and I know some 8' cutters specify 40 (or thereabouts) as the minimum. And I don't want to buy too much cutter for the tractor.

I like the cutter. I only have 42.5 hp, and can still go pretty fast in the thickest stuff I have been in. But bear in mind, this cutter is only rated to cut 1.5" stuff. I haven't pushed it in that aspect. If I get I to jobs like that, I use my bushhog 306. This is mainly a pasture mower for speed. And I keep blades pretty sharp.

I don't much care for the blade bolt design. I'd rather have a threaded bolt and big nut as opposed to this keeper thingy.

If you read any of my other posts about rotary cutters over the last 5 years, I don't care about cutter or tractor specs. Or what has become the so highly recommend norm of 5hp per ft.

If this cutter were about 400# lighter, I would have a moment hesitation about running it on my old 29 pto hp l3400. And was actively looking for a lighter 8' like the howse, Titan, Kodiak, etc.

And I am still looking for a 10' cutter for my Mx. In about 40 hours of mowing time, 60 hours of total seat time and over 100 acres cut, I have yet to have to slow down because I lacked power.

I have had to slow down because cut quality. Which seems to be in thick grass, it cannot expel it as fast as I have the power to mow it. And I have had to slow down because of rough fields and obsticals.

But when I say I have had to slow down, keep in mind I like to run medium range and pedal to the floor or close to it. That's 6-7mph. So slowing down to me is 3-5mph, which is all the faster most people run.

The areas that I mow around here on the farm are too rough to go faster than 4-5 MPH. That plus taking down brush and small trees require slower speeds. My Brown 472 does fine in rough brush and heavier stuff but does not cut grass as well. Brown does not give the blade tip speed but I calculate it out to be 14,853 @ 540 RPM.
