Hi Folks,

Is anyone using the MX6 on a 3520?

If yes, what are your experiences?

Much thanks!

What year is the MX6? Research the gearbox problems on the spanish and chinese gearboxes before you proceed. They do break reliably, and support will be nonexistent.

My dealer talked me into the MX5 and it was good until the output shaft sheared off... I'd encourage you to check out Rhino, Bush Hog, Woods, and Landpride. The track record is superior, and parts are available for cheaper than JD's proprietary specs and designs.

Thanks brown.

Would be a new product purchase this year.

Have read all about the gearbox issues.

What model year was the MX5 that you used?

Lots written about the shaft breaks on older Deere MX rotary cutters and influenced my decision when buying a new unit. One would think Deere would have corrected the issue by now. The MX6 cutter is heavy for a 3x20 series tractor and you would likely need ballasting on the front of tractor, e.g., front weights or front end loader.

Mine must be 2005 or 2006 vintage--spanish gearbox. The weight of the MX6 on the 3x20 frame was the concern the dealer cited as well--said a light duty 6 or a medium duty 5 wouldn't be too much.

Issues have been corrected and now mx,hx and cx series come with 5 year gear box warranty. I love my mx7. Only regret is not going with a mx8 now

They did finally abandon the retaining bolt and went with a castle nut. The original 5 year warranty boxes from China factory instead of Spanish factory sheared off at the retaining ring as well. .. then they went to the nut. They are good cutters, just poor metallurgy and design for the output shaft trying for a clean stump jumper. Make sure its the nut--not the bolt.

Hope you have a fel on your tractor for front weight. On my 4520 cab without a fel the manual calls for 12 front weights (70 lbs each) to counter balance the MX6. I sold my MX6 before it had a chance to shear off the shaft, did not feel lucky enough to chance it. Other than that I really liked it as it had a nice cut.
