I have 5083E and I'm thinking about getting MX8 mower for it.

Does anyone have any experience with these cutters?

It will be used to maintain about 25-30 ac of hay fields.
How nice is the cut, say set at 5" ?

Is pull-type better than 3 pt?

Thanks,
Peter

I have never used one, but I have a MX-6 and a HX-15 that have been good.

A heavy 8' mower - I would look seriously at the pull type.

With that size tractor, I would look at the MX-10. The MX-8 will not save you a large amount of time over the MX-6, but it costs MUCH more. A pull behind will cost more than using the 3PH, but it pulls MUCH better.

I'm in a similar situation to you except that I have a smaller tractor. I would like to have a MX-10 to compliment my MX-6.

Ya know - that is good advice.

Good point.

MX-10 pull-type would be the best, but the JD dealer quoted me C$8300 delivered. JD site lists it for US$7,478.00. Must be his calculator
He wants C$5975 for MX-8

ddivinia, trook,

What about the actual cut? Baleable? or a fine dust?

I would have them check on the price - that seems hosed to me.

That is a funny question. Some people do bale with shredders around here, but it is going to make a really crappy bale.

My HX-15 15' batwing cuts like a finishing mower if it is level and the bales are in good shape.

Ground speed and thickness of material makes a big difference.

Overall - I am very happy with it. My HX-15 did have to be adjusted to sit level, etc. Not as much of an issue for you, but I figured I would point it out.

Maybe the dealer is charging a high delivery fee and paying 2 guys to stay with the machine to help you get hooked up and get going. Some dealers around here are getting $120 per hour for their guys labor time. My Son has a MX7 and loves it. I think he paid around $3500 for it last season. Ken Sweet
