My 16LA\'s first busted hydraulic hose

I had one of the loader hydraulic hoses crack this weekend at 225hrs. It's the ~15" hose that is connected from the main steel line to the back of the top cylinder for the bucket roll motion. Looked like it had a hairline crack in it that really shot fluid when the bucket was rolled down fully.

There is some motion in the lines as the bucket curls down then back up, so I guess it just wore out. I had two made just incase.

Has anyone else seen their hoses going this quickly?

Gary,

I know Jinman had one go, but I think he attributed it to a branch or something.

What side was it on ? I often wonder about the occasional rubbing of the level indicator rod with the hose.

Hey guys.. nice tractors! I have the 17LA and have def. put it through the paces.. no busted line.. yet. (785+ hours)

"I often wonder about the occasional rubbing of the level indicator rod with the hose. "

I did too.. took a piece of carpet padding and a plastic tie.. and pulled the lines away from the level indicator against the loader arm. Always thought the level rod would catch the hoses one day.. hasn't been a problem.

nope, this was on the opposite side from the level indicator, no rubbing what-so-ever, just a little looping to get back to the male connector on the hydraulic piston.

Re: My 16LA\'s first busted hydraulic hose

Gary, my bucket curl hose on the right-hand side blew out right where the connector was crimped onto the hose. I was pushing a pile of brush with the bucket curled down and caught the lip on a hidden stump. The control was in neutral, so the spike in pressure was trapped with no pressure relief valve in the circuit. The hose popped and sprayed about a quart of fluid onto the ground. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I got a new hose made by my dealer, and I don't think it had anything to do with the age of the hose (300 hr +). I believe the same thing would have happened if I had done it the day I brought it home. Having a spare hose is probably cheap "insurance" for this type of failure. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: My 16LA\'s first busted hydraulic hose

If your "level indicator rod" is rubbing on your hyrolic hoses then the bracket was installed upside down. The bracket should be installed on the UNDERSIDE of the hydrolic cylinder and the "u bolt" should go across the top of the cylinder. In this way the "level indicator rod" will never rub on the hoses. Many have been installed upside down at the dealers. Good luck,

Re: My 16LA\'s first busted hydraulic hose

Hydraulic hoses that are properly made rarely burst for no reason. It is usually something snagging them (quick) or something rubbing (very slow). My 2120 which was purchased in 1987 and has been used heavily including moving a lot of brush has only burst one hose when I snagged it. My 1710 before it and my other tractor have never burst hoses.

Re: My 16LA\'s first busted hydraulic hose

I'm not sure why NH didn't install a 30 or 45 degree male connector to this hose since it goes about 6" to the right and ~5" down and a 90degree turn. Plus there is some movement in the hose from the bucket hydraulic cylinder movement.

I'm sure there's always a chance of a slight defect in any man made item that QC can't see and normal wear and tear will eventually disclose.

Where do ya'll get your hoses replaced? At the dealer or some machine shop. Last time I was at Wally World they didn't have any. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif But then I probably wouldn't buy one from them anyway /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: My 16LA\'s first busted hydraulic hose

Gary, your NH dealer would be my first choice. Mine was $9 for a new hose with two new connectors installed. That's pretty cheap. Also, the new hose was a better grade of hose with a higher pressure rating. I think you can get hydraulic hoses made at many auto parts stores such as NAPA or almost any industrial supply. If you get lucky, you can find the right hose at Tractor Supply. ...just a few suggestions.
