I added the pack of shims to the hydraulic pressure regulator as described here on TBN.

In the past the loader struggled to lift a heaping bucket of moist GA red dirt (it's heavy like clay). Unfortunatly I don't have a measurement of the "before" capacity, but today I was unloading bags of quik-crete from my truck. As a test I stuffed (16) 80lb bags into the bucket (1280 lbs + the weight of the bucket). That was enough to fill the bucket and them some. I could definitely tell it was loaded, but it did just fine lifting and tilting the load. I'm sure the quik-crete weighs more per cubic foot than the wet dirt.

Needless to say, I'm a very happy with the tractor and the modification.

I also have been considering this mod. Mine has trouble lifting a bucket load of damp sod.

I'd like to check the pressure before and after the mod, but how can that be done easily. I have seen 0-5000 psi hydraulic gages in the internet for about $20. It has a pipe thread on it and would need to be adapted somehow to a fitting that would interface to the tractor. Has anyone done this? Would you put a male QD on the gage and plug it into one of the loader ports?

I have done it, and written about it many times...

Get a gauge, a short hose (mine is 12", but I would do 24" next time) and a QD nipple that fits into one of you loader ports (I got mine from JD) I bought all my parts from the SurplusCenter

Now, just plug the gauge into one of the QD ports, then move the joystick to energize that port-the system will go into relief and you will see what the valve is set at on the gauge. Only hold the joystick for a few seconds at a time though, the fluid can heat up rapidly when the system is in relief.

I have not. Next time I order any hydraulic stuff I'll get one.
As recommended I did only add the one pack.
When a cylinder fully extends and the system dead heads, it's not squalling, or stalling at idle, so I don't believe I'm out in the ozone on pressure.

I figured all it needed was another 10 or 20% to be able to handle whatever you could actually stuff in the bucket. It was so close, just needed that extra boost!

Definitely the best < 3$, 10 minute, mod out there.
