Edit: I am reposting this, I think I kinda Hi-jacked another thread. :ashamed::ashamed:

I am in the middle of building one with a 3pt bale spear ( Titan - $169. Rated 3000# ) The spears will slide into PVC pipe so the spears can be pulled out if need be. I will be cutting the center spear off and putting a hitch pin thru it to keep block from sliding off. The concrete level will be down 5" from the top so I'll have a storage area. I will be leaving the wood attached. The inside dimensions of the concrete block are 20.5" W x 44" L x 22.5" H (approx 1600#)

.
Finished my ballast box today: concrete weight is 1600# the wood box is approx. 200#. The total should be real close to 1800#. It took .43 cy of concrete. And if you are wondering, NO, Jimmy Hoffa is not buried in it! (Thanks MorningViewStables)

Nice build. Do you still plan to use the spear to move bales?

Thank-you. No, I really have no need to move bales.

Is the only thing holding that on is the one clip pin thru the center spear?

There is a 12" x 12" steel plate that goes in behind the pin ( not shown ).

Looks great.Let us know how it works.I may copy you're design.I like that the QH + spear get the weight out farther behind you and ease of off and on.I would likely skip the receiver and add pvc holders for hand tools.I've been thinking of buiulding a ballast off of a 3pt trailer hitch but you've done all the thinking on this one already.
