I needed a second walk-behind mower and I picked this up on ebay for $85. (Lucky to find it relatively close to me). I was a little wary of buying a rare brand but this is the best mower I've ever owned. In spite of the peeling paint and rust I don't think its done hardly any work. The blade was sharp, the air cleaner was almost spotless and the rubber wheels were barely worn. (I think its just been left outside a lot, or maybe it was stored in a shed with pool chlorine). Anyway, its dream to use. Its a 19" cut and is extremely heavy, (its not for tight spaces) but its self propelled and cruises through just about anything. Its the only mower I've owned that will fill the catcher even when ploughing through wet grass like I was today. This is a mower that will go 'off-road' without any problems. Sticks and other hidden hazards just get shredded without it missing a beat.
The motor is unusual (to me). Its a 4hp B&S 'Commercial/Industrial ' 2 stroke with a cast iron bore. I didn't know B&S even made 2 strokes til I saw this but its the quietest, smoothest 2 stroke I've ever used. It just purrs like a kitten. If you ever come accross a mower like this thats in good knick, grab it.
Viking mowers are uncommon over here but oddly I also own an 18hp Viking ride-on. I'll have to take a pic of the green duo one day.
And I'll also take a pic of the worst mower I've ever owned. A GMC, bought new, on the spur of the moment, a couple of years ago because it was the cheapest self propelled walk-behind I had seen. What a design joke that is, although I still use it at the shack.
