My \'Bota dealer pulls his (actually her) plug
Just found out this AM that my Kubota dealer in Redding, CA (45 miles from my place) has closed the doors after 33 years in business. Judging by the voice message on their answering machine, this took the employees by surprise.
Just my luck. After buying my B7510HST there last May, I'm nearing the 50-hour point for servicing. Won't be getting my SUDT there.
In 2004 the Kubota dealer in Chico CA (35 miles away) shut his doors. Apparantly, I can get Kubota stuff from another souce in Chico, so I won't have to go mail order. But with the competition thinning out, I can hear the cash register ringing in Chico now. Oh, well. What's a few bucks more to protect a $12K investment?
The Redding employees evidently are trying to figure out some way to start the business again under new management. Don't know if that's going to happen or when.
Looks like I'll be hauling my tractor to Sacramento if and when I need major repairs. Hope the vaunted Kubota reliablity doesn't fail me for the next 5-10 years.
Just wondering how common this kind of thing is out there in tractorland. Lotsa posts in these forums stress the importance of buying from the "right" dealer, meaning one who's reliable, with honest prices and good expectations for staying in business for the foreseeable future. I thought that I had made a good choice of dealers last May, but obviously that's been shot to s___.
