My "brilliant" idea for a grapple

/ My "brilliant" idea for a grapple #11
It has been said that one does not need a full width grapple, that the work it does can be done very well with a narrower unit. That makes sense. You aren't digging wheel width with it, just popping out particular items or grabbing a bundle. For digging out a stump or something like that, additional width is no advantage, it gets in the way.

I'm not sure you really need to get one custom made heavier than normal. Particularly on a tractor, you are more likely to damage your loader arms or cylinder rods than you would a typical heavy duty grapple.

There are very different styles of grapples. Think long and hard about which type best fits your needs.

I suspect you're right and I dont need to beef it up. I've never seen one in person.
At first I thoght I'd like the "clam" design like the one WR Long makes, but after considering the potential of the long bottom grapple and the acres of heavy brush I have to up root, I think this is the way to go.
The first year I had this property I grabed my chain saw and cut and piled 1" to 5" brush that had once been potato field. I got about an acre done and then had the stumps to deal with. Finaly last year I was able to stump it. plow it, disc it, and seed it. I have quite a bit more that I'd like (not have) to do. It's so nice to sit on the back deck and see green field comparied to brush.
I think this grapple is going to be the ticket. It's going on a Mahindra 4035. I'll post pics. when it comes in.
Later. Dan.
