A week ago I was flying from Phoenix to Los Angeles and the TSA guard asked me to step aside to inspect my computer bag. I let him know I was rather annoyed.
Then he asked me if I owned a firearm. He shocked me a bit, but I stammered that I did but I locked it up that morning before leaving the house. Then he asked me what goes with the firearm? Oh crap, I had a fully loaded magazine buried in my bag, with 7 rounds of .45 hollow point!
I usually take my computer with me when I go to the Ranch on the weekends and I sometimes slip the firearm and mags into my computer bag. Next was major grilling by several TSA people and then the PHX PD showed up. I thought I was going downtown, but instead the sargent asked me if I wanted to take it out to the car. I couldn't believe it. He said that it was from a Sig and I obviously knew good firearms. When I said that I didn't have time to go to the car, he said he would hold it for me down at the station and I could get it when I came back. I just got back last night, so I'm going to go down and get it tomorrow morning.
They sure did have me sweating for awhile! :ashamed:

And your ae not in jail. whats the problem??????

Well all in all that sounds like it went as well as it could. Glad they called in someone with some common sence !

You're lucky it was Arizona...
TSA and the cops wouldn't have been so accomodating in many other states.

I think he said the pistol was locked-up at home... no pistol in his possession.

I think he said that he had a loaded magazine, not the whole gun.

I was expecting a story about how bad they where towards you, but this sounds like they were very decent and accomodating. Nice to hear a good story about the TSA.

Wow! Quite a story. Wasn't sure if you were bragging or complaining-seems to me that you should buy a lottery ticket! No way I'd be that lucky.....

Exactly, it was a loaded magazine, not the pistol. The post is more of a comment about myself, being all upset about being detained, when in fact it turned out to be a blessing. Like someone said, I was very lucky it was AZ. The officer even said that since so many people carry in AZ, what happened was not that unusual. As long as I had a decent alibi (always carrying at my ranch), they were willing to let it go. But he told me that had it slipped through, then on the return trip the LAPD would have booked me for sure. So it was in fact a very positive experience for TSA. The guy that initially pulled me out of line stated that there would most likely be a $2,000 fine from TSA. My smile changed to a disappointing frown, then I saw him crack a smile. I punched him in the shoulder and said, "don't do that turkey, that's not funny" We all had a good laugh.
