Satoh Buck
Hi,

A few years back I purchased an old Satoh/Mitsubishi buck. Some of the stickers say Mitsubishi but some say Satoh, not really sure the year or how to tell the year.

Anyways, I picked it up mainly for snow removal and it has a front loader on it (Blackhawk loader with a plate that says model number 25?). It's been a great little tractor so far and worth every penny. It is a 4WD diesel model and has been surprisingly tough and dependable.

Last winter the 3 PT hitch stopped lifting. This winter I finally got around to figuring that out. The filter was badly plugged up and the hydraulic fluid looked like chocolate milk. Cleaned the filter, put in new fluid. I also replaced the front diff fluid and coolant while I was at it. The shifter boot was gone and I imagine water was leaking into the fluid from there. I was unable to find the "correct" boot so I measured the shaft and the base plate and ordered the closest thing I could find: Empi 00-4535-0 Gear Shift Boot. $10 and free shipping. I trimmed it a little shorter and it fit perfect, looks great.

The face of the tractor was smashed when I bought it. It was made of plastic and was probably old and brittle and something bumped it, causing it to break. I made a new one out of sheet metal (using a piece cut from an old truck hood I had laying around) and mounted some generic off road lights from wal-mart. I think it looks a lot better. I'll post a picture of it when I have enough posts to add pictures.

Anyways, the main question I have is around the loader. I can't find any info on this loader....

It looks like the hydraulic fluid is stored in the frame of the loader itself? I see what appears to be a fill cap up top near the valves but I don't see any drain plugs. Anyone know how to drain it and what type of fluid this thing would probably take?

Thanks.

Most of the time the loader uses oil from the tractor rear case. Make sure you are putting hydraulic/gear oil in it. I've never had a loader but there are several older threads on this forum which discuss Blackhawk loaders.

Thanks for the reply. I don't think this one feeds off the rear case hydraulics, the lines are all self contained to the loader and external pump. I filled my rear case with UTF meeting john Deere 303 specs per valleypower website. It says the owners manual was wrong when it stated 80w gear oil. I will do some more searching on the forums and see what I can find about this little loader. Thanks.

Yeah, its highly unlikely 90wt would be used, and that regular hydraulic oil is used.

With you stating that it has an external pump then it does sound like a self contained unit. I have seen a couple setups that way over the years - course I cant remember what they were on!

No problem, I'll get some pictures of the system and post them, sometime. Someone may be able to recognize it.

Here she is when I first got her:

Here is the new face plate I made:

If the tubes are the "tank" you might be able to drain it at the pump.

If you can not find a drain plug, the suction hose that takes the oil from the "tank" to the pump should be the lowest drain point,, remove the hose.

If you can not determine the oil presently in it,, refill with UTF such as Traveller Premium Universal Tractor Trans/Hydraulic Fluid, run it a little, drain, and repeat.

A couple quick flushings is the best way to insure you know what oil is in the machine.

Oh, yea, on a historical note,,, I purchased a couple machines off of Valley Power,,
one of them was a MT372,,,

Good job on the nose piece and head lights!
