Congratulations. I got married while in the Philippines and paid for everything. Total was about $1800 for dresses, food, beer, soda and transportation.

I am paying and I do plan to give her away. I started crying to the wife
about the cost right out of the gate so I hope it tempers the spend a little.

Airfare alone isn't going to be cheap. Frankly I think weddings are a big
waste of money that could be better spent on a down payment for their first
house but I can't appear to be Scrooge McDuck.

I have always thought that too. In fact the wife and I were married in her parents living room with a pastor and a few family members attending. We saved our money and were able to buy a house not long afterward.. But to each their own. I know it is a big tradition and a big deal to many.
