Well Folks --

My first price quote on a 4710 at the dealers I'm working with in the Capital District, NY came in. Not including options, the following quote is what I received from KC-Canary in Fultonville, NY:

JD 4710, 4WD
---- with eHydro transmission
---- with tall folding ROPS
---- with 16.9-24 R-1 ag tires
---- with dual mid SCV w/joystick and single rear SCV w/lever
---- with rockshaft w/ flat bar draft links
---- with engine coolant heater
---- with HD (55 amp) alternator

Price = $22,795

460 FEL
---- with hood guard
---- with mounting frame and hoses
---- with bucket level indicator
---- with 73" HD pre-drilled bucket
---- with 3 welded bucket hooks
---- with tooth bar

Price = $3,600

MX Rotary Mower = $1,800

Above prices are same whether cash or through JD Credit. Expecting other quotes to come in from four other dealers by early next week. Then, decision time.

All 4710s I've seen on dealer lots have been sold. Waiting time for custom order 4710s are 4 weeks to as long as August /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif. No 4700 HSTs are available. Saw only one left over 4700 w/ Power Reverser.

My gut tells me above prices are more than fair. Anyone else care to share their thoughts on the above prices???? I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

rancar, the price sounds good - what does percentage discount does that come out to be?

How are you going to make your decision? Are all the dealers you are working with equal in your mind such that price would be the deciding factor?

For me, it was a combination of price and dealer sat. I chose Clifton Park Lawn and Leisure. Jerry Stone was excelent to work with.

Allen's didn't seem to care, showed no interest. Hadn't met Mark at KC Canary - I have since, and was impressed, but Jerry's place is 1 mile from my house. Big difference for me. Mark also spoke well of Jerry, as did other dealers from other brands, which was reassuring.

Good luck, sounds like you're on track.

Dick --

Percentage discount given me by Mark Brucker is about 16% off MSRP -- just on the tractor package I listed. He's given me quotes on other options and implements, all in the 10-16% range. Having this breakdown, I will decide which options I want to get now and which I'll hold off on if I think I can get elsewhere at lower cost. I've spoken to Mark by phone. He's very courteous and responsive and gave me the detailed item price break down that I requested within 2 days.

I have 5 dealers I'm working with. They are Allen, Clifton Park Lawn and Leisure, Davis Tractor and Turf (Chatham), Knightes, and KC-Canary.

I will make my decision primarily on total price. However, there are some intangibles that will also play into my decision. One being, how responsive will these dealers be in coming back to me with a detailed price quote. If they're not at all responsive then this may be a reflection on how they may perform warranty and service work. I will also not chase after these dealers in getting a price quote. I feel if I have to call them 2 or 3 times to remind them of my need of a price quote that I asked for 5 or 7 days ago, then that says to me they're just not interested in selling to me. Bottom line is I may be willing to pay a slightly higher price if I know the dealer is responsive and has a clean shop and service reputation.

I'm working with Lee Van Arsdale at Clifton Park. He says he'll get me something by late today or Monday. I agree with you on Allen. Those guys like dealing with farmers, selling the ag tractors. Not sure they like getting into deals on Commercial (eg, which 4710 is) and Consumer Products. But, then again when I bought my JD425 in 1995 they came in $850 cheaper than Clifton Park. So, I bought from Allen.

Will post further information as it comes in.

Bob Ancar

Plower,

I know what you mean by the wait. Dealers are telling me these 4710s are hot items. Everyone is in line wanting them, nobody seems to want the 4700 now. I'm willing to wait 4-6 weeks. Mark Brucker at KC-Canary tells me that retail tractors sold retail are only 30-45 days out. I can handle this. I couldn't understand the 5-6 month (until August) wait that Allen Farm Equipment was telling me.

I love those pics you've posted on your 4710. Gives me something to look forward to in waiting for mine. Look forward to swapping 4710 stories with you. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Bob,

This is basically reflective on the Sales personal... , not necessarily the entire dealership...

That's the number one problem and "misconception" of a number of dealerships... a lot of people get "turned off" by the sales office on the "front line"... and never get to see the "real picture" of the rest of the dealership... If the owners allow that action to continue... then it is indeed "the rest of the picture"... but most owners are in business for the long haul... the sales people come and go...

Believe it or not... personality has a lot to do with treatment..., while one can have a "negative" experience at a certain dealership... many others have positive one's...

Over the years, I've heard the "worst" and the "best" said of the same local dealerships..., it all boils down to that particular persons perception at that time... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

John - You are correct about the different departments at dealers... However (especially at smaller dealers), the genuine interest of a sales person is very important...

Where I bought my tractor, the sales paerson was the owner! When I have any questions, I call him. When I need my tractor picked up for repairs - he picks it up on the way home!

But even at larger departmentalized dealers, I find that generally, their interest to serve customers is not just a single person thing... To be successful, a dealership needs to ooze the customer service mentality... sales, service, parts, warranty, accounting, and even the janitor... If any one person or department does not follow this lead, then the weakest link can cause dissatisfaction, and the customer is lost... and all the hard work of everyone else is just wasted!

Bottom line - Go to a dealer where the salesmen offers you a coffee and a seat. Stay with that dealer if everyone treats you that way.

Over simplified? Yes

It's just my two cents... and a perspective that the airline industry is ignorant of...

Failed to mention that the prices quoted include delivered prices -- about 70 miles each way. Warranty 2 years parts & service tractor; 1 year parts & service implements. No trucking charges during the warranty period.

So, you say this is comparable with your Kubota L48 purchase but do you think this is a good deal overall?
