Where I am in SC, deer season began Aug 15. On my hunt club we practice Quality Deer Management, and don't take any bucks less than 14" spread. Over the years I have really seen a difference in the size of the bucks. I got this one Saturday, Aug 30. I had seen a couple smaller ones in velvet, (never been too crazy about shooting a deer in velvet), but this one came along and I squeezed the trigger.

Unfortunately, those cute kids aren't mine, but a friend's. I especially wanted to share that pic...I smile everytime I look at it. Aren't kids great!

Hope you all are having/getting ready for the season! All that tractor work should produce something! Show a pic or three when you get a chance. We need to give Eddie some company with his hog operation over there...

Hi Brian,

In this part of SC, any weapon the entire season. Bow, crossbow, rifles, black powder, pistol. There is no primitive weapon season. Aug 15 to Jan 1. Pretty liberal, huh?

Hey Ed,

I used to live at Waycross before moving up to Columbia. I was in a good club over in Atkinson County, Georgia. You have some good hunting, (and really good fishing), where you are...

Ed and Dave,
I used to hunt at the "Roads End Hunt Camp" near Waycross (actually out on 82 somewhere between Waycross and Brunswick???, I think near Nahunta actually, but I'm not sure. I was a guest member, there with my father-in-law. They dog hunted...I'm not much into that. But the camaraderie was nice and the "socials" even better;)

Great deer in that part of the country!

Dave, you guys have a long deer season. LUCKY! It doesn't start here until mid-October, then runs through 31 Jan.

Podunk,

I have heard of that club. I was in the Alapaha River Hunt Club, west of Waycross. Had around 30 members and 13000 acres when I was in it. Fall is a busy time of year, with hunting going on and fishing along the coast at it's best.
