A few weeks ago, the church that I do allot of work for, and their members, asked me to make a fake barn for their Christmas show. The theme was Christmas in Texas. They wanted a big red barn with a Texas Star on it.
I had a budget of $200 for materials. Since they are such a great client, and word of mouth is so valuable to me, I volunteered my time to do this.
I bought five sheets of 3/4 inch foam insulation, and cut it to the shape of a barn. Then I cut the scrap pieces into the trim. I attached the trim so that it overlapped the edges to hide the seems and help lock the five pieces together.
Then I primed and pained it. And painted it and painted it!!!
Today, after service, I loaded it onto my truck. That was a little more tricky then I thought it would be, but with some scrap wood, screws and black electrical tape, I got it secure.
Setup turned out to be a big party. There was about a dozen people there helping out, so it went real quick and easy. In addition to the barn, I brought the hay bales. I needed them for my Christmas Eve party hay ride, so I told them that I'd take care of the hay and then keep them afterwards.
Four teenagers can move ten bales of hay in about two seconds!! I never touched a bale.
The barn was a big success and I received allot of compliments on it. Several clients were there too, so it was a great PR move on my part. They all came by and said hi, and mentioned some projects and friends of theirs with the need of a contractor, so who knows?
