My First YM2000

Amen Bro.

A friend said a tractor rollover was how his Dad became disabled. I'm convinced.

interesting ROPS on that clip tractor, forward of the driver. i believe one just behind you would be better BUT in saying that anything is better than nothing. i would never own or operate a tractor after putting mine on its side a few years ago while pulling huge poles out of the ground,it tipped over but i leapt over the side and scrambled away. if i had a belt on i think i would have had a few minor injuries compared to a bruised pride only  that certainly woke me up as to how easy it is to roll.

When i got my first Yanmar I made it a must to have it equipped with ROPS, fortunately that little YM169D had the factory ROPS and a seat belt. I never did roll it but I was always glad i had them as i did operate it on hills quite a bit.

Is that the Yanmar you got rid of? Nice looking machine; no wonder you miss it! Did you make a custom weight bracket/guard for the front?

Yea thats the one he sold. I think he just has the factory Yanmar/JD weights. As far as i know they just hang on the front bumper. I did not want to pay what folks are selling the weights for so i got a 3" pipe and filled it will lead, so i have about 180lb front weight bumper. One pipe is filled with lead the other is a 3" solid steel round stock. Just barly holds my front down when i have my "weighted" disk harrow on the back.

Clemson -- I like the sound of your weighted bumper. Can you post some pics? I keep struggling with how I want to add weight to mine. I can get by without it (and have been) but it would be better with it.

Here is a picture before i put the lead weighted 3" pipe on it. This is just with the 3" diameter solid steel bar. I have no idea what its for but a budy at a chip mill (for paper) got it roughed out the brackets with my measurements and quickly welded it up. Yes its a bit crooked, i have straigtened it a bit as there is slop in the holes. This single bar weighed about 80lbs give or take maybe. I noticed it but was not near enough. Im looking though my pics now to try and find another the way it is now. I know i have them. somewhere.

OK found them on my memory card out of my cell phone. I pulled it out and put it by the PC when my wife washed my last phone and tore it up. Thankfully the SD card was fine.

The first pic is obviously of the bumper. That blue pipe was i think 3" inside diameter. I forget the length but think its around 30"s though. I used the specific weight or looked up the weight per cubic inch or whatever and got the inside sq inches of a certain length pipe cause i knew i wanted it around 100lbs, and i think 30 is what i came up with, i think the other bar may be 36"s??

A budy at work was collecting lead weights for casting bullets and dive weights. I got him a bucket of some old weights and donated some stuff to his boyscoutt troop, so he did me the favor of filling this pipe for me. A full 5 gallon bucket of weights is almost more than you can even pick up your self. about a half bucket it just manageble. Anyway i think he had either 1 or 3lb already cast ignots. he welded a plate on one end and filled the pipe up with ignots and then poured lead around them to some degree (i was not there so im not sure if every void was filled?) then welded a plug on the other end. The result was this bumper. Its about all i can do to move it on my own.To mount it i had to put it on a floor jack and lift it to the holes on the bumper to put the bolts in. To lift it i pretty much straddle it and pick it up that way and carry it. Im no weightlifter but i am 225lbs and 6'2" (30 yrs old) so i am pretty strong. When i put it in my full size truck you can see it move the truck a bit lower, just a bit but still! Like i said i think its around 180ish?

The second pic is lifting aabout a 5.5ft long piece of Rail iron that i use sometimes as a weight on harrows. I CANONT lift this thing, i can barely pick up one end and can slide it around on the trailer. I figure it to weigh around 400lbs. NO problem picking it up with the tractor and is no longer light on the front with this weight.

Mowing at the end of last summer i did not miss a tree with the bumper and using grade 5 bolts but 2 washers the force pulled the washers through the holes and bent the brackets. The bolts kid of pulled the bend out when i put it back on but i need to take it off and beat the angle brackets back straight so that they lie flat against the front bumper again..

Yep, that's the one I sold. It was one sweet little tractor, i really miss that little machine. I did make the custom bracket, mainly to add a grill guard but then I did a little Modification to two 40 lb. weights and it allowed me to hang 5 out on the front if needed. It was a very maneuverable little tractor, I got it in some tight spots thanks to it's 40" width. I do love my John Deere skid steer but i defiantly want to have another Yanmar in the future.
