My Gearmore hydraulic toplink has started leaking from the seal where the cylinder comes out. If I store it up in the bracket, it's OK, but if I store it hooked up so it's horizontal or tipped down some, it seeps out from the seal. Not a lot, just enough to leave a thin layer of oil on the floor about 3" across. If I operate the cylinder and bottom it out in either direction, oil does not squirt out. I've had it for about 2 years now. Is this normal? How hard would it be to replace this seal?

Mosey, can you like take a picture of your TNT system. I think but an not sure that I have the same cylinder but it has no name or model numbers on them to tell for sure.

Thanks

George

Here is a picture. The part number is T3X8-18. It was black when I got it and I painted it gray to match the gray on the tractor.

Here is a picture of what it looks like before painting it. This one is actually Spencer's, but he has the same one as mine.

Try this picture, I lightened it so the cylinder can be seen.

Thanks for the pictures!
You can try to give them a call and then let us all know the answer as well. I also have the same one's on my TC24D. In addition I have tilt to my setup. I have noticed they do leak down but I really do not know where the blame lies.

Hummmm, they do not look easy to open. Any ring clips or something holding them together? Some cheapie cylinders are just welded together - toss when shot. I think you have a soft hose on your arm holder? I'd be real careful not to damage that smooth cylinder shaft in any way - any tiny ding or nick will shred the seal in no time.

As the one leaking down internally, that could be worn seals inside the cylinder on the plunger, or a leak in your tractor controls. An internal leak in the cylinder itself, or an internal leak in your tractor. Not a big deal unless it becomes noticable during use - then you have a fast leak! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yes, that is a rubber hose on the holder. I don't see any knicks or scratches on the rod. It doesn't leak down and will hold my mower up overnight. It just leaks a few drops when the cylinder is stored level or facing down. It looks like it has some bolts holding the end cap on. I'll take a closer look.
