So I finally a completed garage and had always planned to move a pellet stove I have never used from my basement (it was never operated, just stored there). The obstacle though was moving it upstairs and out the door and I thought a decent dolly would do the job, yeah right! After strapping it up and trying to lift it up the stairs, I noticed the wheels on the dolly were not large enough to go above the tread lip so all my pulling would never get it up the 15 stairs as I would have to lift and then pull. So after many ideas passed back and forth between my wife and I as well as a lot of cursing, I was about to give up and hire a few guys to do it for me. After lunch (had been beta testing various moving methods all morning), I got the brilliant idea of using the Kubota. I drove my tractor up close to the front door, extended by BH bucket and then attached 1" rope to it and then to the dolly with the stove strapped to it. I then laid down plywood on the stairs screwed together and butted up against a section of 2"x4" attached to the basement floor so they would not slip. Then proceeded to use exercise mats with cardboard and a lot of tape wrapped against the door jam after removing the front door. This was for when the rope rubbed up against it as I pulling the stove up but had a turn to go out the door. Then showed DW how to operate the BH very carefully and went to the top of the stairs to guide the stove. Used out walkie-talkies to call out commands and we were off. DW curled the bucket slowly and the stove slowly starting to move. Then she collapsed the BH arm and the stove continued to move with me maintaining the stove on course. Finally after the BH arm was completely folded I had DW drive the tractor forward until the stove made it to the top of the stairs. I was very happy when that happened and then proceeded to load it into the tractor FEL and had it installed the next day.

Thank GOD for my Kubota!

That is the first use of a BH in the house that I have heard of. Great idea!

I guess DW is "da wife"

Hmm. I have to remove a pellet stove from downstairs also. I have a bulkhead with removable stairs so the FEL just might do the trick. Great idea you had.

I put my coal furnace in the basement using my FEL and a little ingenuity(and a lot of luck)

I had to move a couple heavy appliances out of my father's basement so I did basically the same thing with my mini-excavator. My wife can't operate the mini but she could stand clear of any danger and give me directions. I'm sure glad dad built his place with that direct access from outside. Too bad Kubota only puts instructions in the manual about stupid things like digging holes instead of real life situations like lifting a washing machine out of a basement.
