- New BX2200 4-3-02 (traded 6-08) new B2620 06-08
Deb wanted to mow the lawn before the Rain showed up so I got the BX2200 ready for her. We have a walk out basement so there is a hill on the west end of the house to get from the front lawn to the basement level.
From the basement level there is also another hill to the back yard. So we are dealing with 3 hills with lawn on all three but they come together in a terrace kind of arrangement.
(You come down one hill from the front, on level ground a bit and then go down the second hill.)
She started mowing at the basement level and when done with that was going to go up to the front yard. I told her to put the tractor in low gear with 4WD to mow up the hill and when she got to the front yard she could put it back in 2WD and high gear.
I went into the house. For some reason, (her Guardian Angel told me to check on her?) I went back outside at the basement level and watched her go up the hill.
She got up to the top level, stopped and was switching to high gear when all of a sudden down the hill she comes backwards.
Zigging back and forth to keep from going over the steep hill down 3 levels she did fairly good trying to back track where she just came from. I ran to her yelling "BRAKE BRAKE BRAKE"..... She just kept coming down faster and faster...
I caught up with her half way down the hill and then ran on along side her with my hand pushing the brake. The tractor lever was in neutral. She was free wheeling.
She said she got used to the HYDRO and forgot the Brake was even there. It happens.... So, we had a refresher PRE-Flight Course before she resumed mowing..
The whole incident didn't seem to bother her. I, on the other hand, am sitting here reliving the incident as I type. Still makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. Guess I am getting soft in the older years.
And, my hand kind of hurts from when she did finally stomp on the Brake with my hand still on the Pad. It happened so fast just like it always does.
I am thanking God she didn't get hurt. She said she is thanking God she didn't hurt the Bota.
