LSmith wrote about his amazing glowing land recently, well here's some hard evidence to support the story! I was working late tonite, and as I left the maintenance shed - Lo & Behold!! An eerie glow covers the newly cleared "back forty"! Looked like someone had a car out there, but no car can get there without going thru me or a swamp... Look at the picture - the tree line in the distance is barely visible and about two thirds up from the bottom - well above the glowing area! Pretty darn cool, I didn't know we got this kind of effect in New hampshire.....the whole area (about forty acres) was glowing!

If there isn't a town back of those trees, I'd get a radon gas test. It is suprisingly common, but still radioactive. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I hope it's an optical illusion with the fog and I'm just nuts! Don't like that Radon stuff! Still looks cool tho'!! I'll have to take a picture from the same spot in daylight and see where the trees are in relation to the glow...

All I see is a break in the clouds on a stormy sky. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It is just as beautiful today in NH as when I lived there in the early 1960's. Thanks for the memory jog....

Northern lights coming through a break in the clouds?

Cool picture. I wouldn't worry about Radon. It is an odorless and colorless gas. While it does emit ionizing energy I don't think there is enough to make something else glow.

I have read about certain fungi that live in the soil and glow. Maybe you stirred that up.

My glow was from wood scraps that were turned over by the box blade. It was a dull blue and looked like a chem-lite. I researched the effect and it is known as "Foxfire". Just to be sure I went over the area with a radiation survey meter(Geiger counter) and found no levels above background. Just a cool natural effect.
